i think ill stop using bfair for any interest bets i have in future.i obviously cannot make an overll profit as 98% of my business is just oncourse back bets (oncourse bookie) . as for my funs bets on golf cricket and footy i may just use the purple firm for these.as i said at the start i dont pay any premium charge but i think the outrageous charges made on anyone clever enough to get money punting shows the distain with which these punters are held.thers no doubt the pc charges will continue to increase and if was a pro sports punter id be happier winning smaller with purlple short term in the hope other join me.

The worry I have is if this is accepted, every now and again the commission will be bumped up year on year and other firms will think along similar lines to the extent that eventually it will become impossible to win anywhere in the long term.
I honestly believe it could spell the end of betting and gambling as we'eve ever known it, it could be that serious. |

Honestly. The new rules are bad and a very shoddy way to treat Betfair's customers, but I think some around here are rather overdoing it. The end of betting and gambling as we've known it???? Even the Romans used to gamble. It's been with us for hundreds and hundreds of years, and will continue to be with us for hundreds and hundreds of years more. Perhaps the betting exchange model will never (in our lifetimes at least) have the promise of old. Perhaps the bookmakers will be in the ascendancy once more. One thing that is guaranteed is that there'll always be ways of gambling and betting. They may be harder to make large profits on, but they'll be there.

Its OK scoffing catflappo but we'll see the scenario in say 10 or 20 years time and what has happened in the meantime. I'm not saying it will finish next week but its quite possible as BF say they are going to continually adjust the commission structure over time.
If other companies follow suit, how could anyone possibly win in the long term, it would all be just like one big gaming machine. Can you not see that? In the past no one was ever told they had to pay back money they won, they were just excluded from betting with firms and then moved on to another firm. But this new method if embraced across the board but just mean most money went to the house in all probability. |

I'll have to get one of those signs around my neck and walk around with those other folk predicting the end is nigh lol. Maybe we will get offered odds on it 10/11 each scenario with 60% of winnings retained by the house.

i8 think whats being missed here is the fact people may make an ok hourly rate paying pc at 20% but at 60% it may be just not worth the hours spent grinding it out.4 or 500 quid a week in 40 hours seems ok but once that changes to nearer 250 for the same hours people may chose to just go back to work with no risk, you must remember even traders are taking a small risk that their original bet is overpriced.you can of course argue guys are making far more than this but most of those can probably earn big money in their normal jobs.the attraction of being able to do as you please each dy will also be affected but the fact guys who have made good money on here previously probably need to keep masking similat amounts to keep their heads above water.originally the p.c came into force to get money from guys running bots, we all know thatif bfair wanted to get rid of bots they could do so overnight, imsure they can tell which accounts are bot driven, the truth is they dont give a feck who ythey get the loot from they just want more of it!!"!most good businesses that go wrong often go wrong because of GREED, well in that case bfair can go wrong as they are the greediest of them all.

If you're asking whether internet gambling would, or should, stay the same for the next 20 years then the answer is clearly no. The rate of change is much greater than that and there maybe many other influences that we cannot predict, it becoming illegal for example. But why the gloomy outlook? There will always be winners and innovators in any field and new fields constantly appearing. 20 years AGO who could have predicted the environment that betfair would provide for people to make money and the new types of gambler that it would spawn?
Anyway, if I'm still around in 20 years it will be on a beach somewhere with a couple of dusky maidens sensually applying suntan oil, pausing only to wheel me back to my room whenever the viagra-laced margaritas succeed in their increasingly unlikely purpose. |

btw , several guys i know who get money on here are looking at th 60% p.c and are thinking that they can get as much money by upping their hours playing poker, loyalty is a two way thing, bfair would do well to remember that.if and its a huge if , they drive many customers to bdaq they will never get bthemback.

It had nothing to do with bots, sick. I use bots without even having paid pc and this is likely to remain the case even under the new system.

Me. When the internet was still a seed I suggested the idea to the labour party, the handicap book and the racing post. Couldn't imagine the idea would work without it being a government monopoly as tax was 9% on turnover at the time. Got a reply from Alan Meale, spoke to Handicap Book editor on phone (didn't think it could happen) but not even the courtesy of a reply from zorro. Had betfair and flutter not started up at the point all the bookmakers were going offshore they would've been strangled at birth. |

It's my bet that a lot of companies potentially interested in online gambling are looking at BF to see how the model works over time .
Expect Beardy to get involved at some point ,he's pretty much on the ball ! and he will probably run it on the same lines as BF except after a few years become even more aggressive with pricing (once he's won the trust of the gamblers with all his nonsense promises). I can see it now |
