What are your views on how this will affect horse racing liquidity here and on purple? For early, pre-race and in running?
Personally I think this will make no difference as people will open new accs etc. The bigger prob IMO is BF has expanded to far, too fast and cannot keep up with cost of expansion as the cost of acquisition of new players is higher and higher. It has got away from the low cost alternative that sold itself and frankly if it continues on this route will merely be another over marketed sportsbook that is not unique. Real shame - maybe one day someone will set up and stay as what BF used to be. |
By:
Another reason to think about taking that job offer ?
By:
"We are developing an integrated Exchange and sportsbook product that will allow us to provide more in-play markets as well as giving customers guaranteed execution in less liquid markets. We believe this liquid Exchange and sportsbook combination will be unique to Betfair and will allow us to capture a greater share of wallet from existing customers as well as attracting new ones."
Thats why the PC payers who provide a lot of liquidity on in running markets will now be priced out of the game as Betfair wish to price and seed the markets themselves rather than having individuals do it. Swiftly becomming just any other bookie.... |

Actually, having had chance to think about it it could well be a good thing for me. My bots have been performing poorly recently and this could be due to the competition tightening. As an ironic consequence, I will escape the new pc (just!!) unless things pick up for me and causing an elephant stampede may just do that. In other words, if it dulls a few of my rivals it could be good for me.
By:
catfloppo. where did you go to learn about gambling software and bots? was there an evening class?
By:
Ha ha
By:
catfloppo - trust me, it won't be.
this is all pointing towards BF becoming active in their own markets. |
By:
No paulme, but I may soon be giving them!
viva, that had occurred to me and I think the way that there is a tiered 'minimum' indicates that this charge isn't about the revenue that it will generate in increased charges. But if they really were aiming to eliminate the bots they would surely just tinker with the transaction charges? |
By:
so how did you learn? and in all seriousness, something i've said before on here, i would pay to join an evening class or to shadow all the PC guys on here
By:
I learned to make money on betfair by playing the markets manually. Specialising on f1 at a time when there was easy money there I would trade all the drivers and green up before the race, skewing the market in favour what I perceived as the good value runners (although I usually let my anti-schumacher sentiments overrule my rational thinking!)
As a programmer, when the api came along it seemed a no-brainer to try and automate what I was doing although the £200 per month subscription was almost prohibitive. The code I wrote worked better than I had hoped and, to my surprise, I was quite easily able to adapt it to other markets. I wouldn't be able to do it now, everything is so much tighter. |
By:
so you dont make as much as the early days?
as a programmer, is it still (like traditional/perceived gambling) about picking winners or not? |
By:
Nowhere near.
To win on here you need to get value bets and not run out of money if you have a bad run. |
By:
Rubbish...you've just got to back winners or lay losers...
By:
Paulme,
As I told you a while ago, no pro will want to have you shadowing them, even for a substantial amount of payment. Having found an edge on here, the last thing one wants to do is share it with someone else. The markets here are just not big enough to support this sort of largesse. |
By:
Lol

The lol was for Jimmy, contrarian is spot on.

"To win on here you need to get value bets and not run out of money if you have a bad run"
probably the wisest thing thing said on here. ever. |
By:
it's weird isnt though how so many many people have found this edge.
By:
They haven't, paul, that's why only a small percentage win.
By:
Paulme. No. You have to bear in mind the selection effect of a thread about the premium charge. It is bound to attract PC payers, the vast majority of whom must have found an edge to make the money to incur the charge.
By:
i see. it seems like most of the forum is discussing the PC hike. i assumed they were all paying it. as im not paying it, i welcome it
By:
Well paulme, when you finally find an edge (can I suggest Dover) take froggy with you and jump right off!!
So many people on this forum have been accommodated by those in the know and been given the time of day to find their stance on the exchange. You and froggy have just irked people to the point where they are blocking your posts! |
By:
never heard of you but what's your problem please?
how do you mean people on the forum have been accomodated by those in the know? how? |
By:
paulme
as im not paying it, i welcome it Tactics not your strong point either. |

so baldy, how do you mean people on the forum have been accomodated by those in the know?

never heard of you but what's your problem please? how do you mean people on the forum have been accomodated by those in the know? how? Ha ha. Your first question has already been answered many times. As for the second comment, see my above post. You see, its all been answered before. You have no experience here yet you go around calling people 'son', 'young un' and generally showing yourself up. At least on frogs account there is an attempt to appear articulate and educated on the matters at hand. Most people started out just like you, not having a clue (this time I mean no offence). They worked hard on their own to figure out the ins and outs of the exchange. If I walked into a window supplier shop and asked them how to make windows, they would tell me (kindly or not) to go jump. Tactfully, you could get them to reveal everything about the manufacturing process. Until you learn this, people will see straight through you. |

By the way, my forum name is well out of date now!

Are you suggesting that he stops people seeing right through him by learning about the manufacture of windows? |
