Last week I won, but only £2.50 which was interesting because the other 3 numbers were only out by 1 number up or down. Now I know the odds are against winning, but you never know.
Okay, i usually do a lucky dip, but I would like to know your thoughts on novel ways to pick the numbers if you have any?
I know the odds are massive against winning, but that being said I remmeber a few years ago now a friend of mine put £2 on Frankie Dettori mounts at Ascot -they all won. The bookies had a limit, but that £2 turned into over £100,000
Lottery odds are extremely poor value, a true mugs game.
For example, they will give you 9/1 for 3 numbers (to win a tenner) when the true odds are over 50/1 iirc.
Imagine being able to lay mugs 9/1 about 50/1 shots on here. Camelot get away with that all day long every day. The state should be reaping the profits, not a bunch of fat cats.
Sorry, didn't mean to rant!

It's OK Trevh. I agree and you're right about the odds etc. It's opium for the masses. But as long as you don't take it too far, and by that I mean spend a lot of money each week trying to win the jackpot then its £2 when I don't forget to play I don't worry about.
Have you heard of the 'gambler's fallacy' its an interesting idea and one which is always at the back of my mind.

Those who run the state are obviously getting brown envelopes out of it as otherwise Richard Branson would be running it and ALL profits would be going to charity. Branson was offered a bribe of 1 million by Camelot to drop out of the bidding which he reported to the Lottery regulator. When the regulator was asked if this was true he replied "he may have reported it, I can't recall at the moment". Presumably his memory was clouded by the size of his brown envelope. Where are Badder & Meinhof when you need them?

This is a little misleading imo. For your £1, you get lines of 6, 5, 4 and 3. So, it's not true to say that it is as low as 9/1 because you get £10 for 3.
