I hear from a great source that sis and turf are about to speed there pictures up within 12 month , great news if you have sis home service.

heard the same poker face....fibre optics meaning sis will be roughly turf tv speed ...proof will be in the pudding when i don;t know

the reason sis track r slower than turf tv is the copper cables at the tracks.. turf tv tracks do have fibre optics cables thats y they can sent faster pictures to the satilite.
with bt updating most of there cables to fibre optics then i,m not surprised if sis do update there speed to same as turf soon fingers crossed :>)

very welcome news if true and it actually happens. will give us some sort of a chance against the track players come the winter. track players should be delighted too, the way things were panning out they were just going to end up battling amongst themselves at SiS tracks.
if SIS and TURF TV can reduce the delay to under 1 second by utilising the internet ( broadband/fibre optics ) they could then charge money on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis using some kind of pay per view/subscription .
they need to look into if there is technology that is available to stream racing over the internet to home users , cutting out the delay which i think can be caused by satellite .
people can then send the pictures from there computer to there tv and carry on betting using there computers monitor to bet , if they have the right graphics card , if they dont it wouldn't cost too much to get and install the correct graphics card ( which any in-running player would do for picture speeds below 1 second ) .
this is how i think people will be watching near live pictures in the future .
people that hire boxes to bet in-running will ( i think already have ) find a way to stream the pictures to home users from the course for a fee ( £10 per meeting , 200 users = £2000 per day , probrably more profitable than having to bet in running ) .

Bank man, if this does happen and Sis use the Internet to stream their pictures to users (which I have also heard will happen this year) then it is unlikely their will be any track players in boxes (the phone players will always be there as most can't turn on a pc!!)

Dont think SIS taking over from Racetech means there won't still be CCTV at the track, thebacker?
The fact they are taking over is a timely reminder how SIS/ATR/Arena have the game sewn up. Those companies are all linked. Imo, they wont allow the cash cow that is the on-track players to slip away.

SIS buy the rights to the pictures from Arena.If SIS want to make money from their picture rights then they will not attract subscribers from the current situation whereby pictures are nearly 3 seconds behind live. The home service at c.£8k per annum is being deserted by a large number of players and that loss to the SIS income stream must have some impact.
We all know that there is a happy medium because Turf TV pictures are around 1 second behind live but the track players are willing to pay very good money to attend those tracks.

noodles, are sis and arena linked by ownership or is it just sis have the contract to provide the broadcasts from tracks?
sureley sis dont want any track players as this has a big affect on their number of home subscribers....showing the same feed on tracks as the home subscribers get is in thier interest as more home service packages wil be sold (the tracks may have an issue with this as they would lose the track players income)

Arena own half of ATR I think, TB. ATR and SIS are the same company as far as Im concerned. That's probably factually incorrect but they share the same staff, same door entrance, same everything. A shady business (imho).
In common sense terms SIS should want more home service subscribers but people have been telling them this for 2 years and they havent shown the slightest interest. I think even half a million pounds or a million pounds of potential income isnt going to turn any heads because they are also owned by the big bookmakers dealing in tens of millions.
I think track playing is here to stay but we will all have a chance if the delay is significantly reduced.

Heard exactly the same from SIS Scooby. Fibre optics being rolled out at 15 dog tracks over the next 3-6 months. They will then review the performance of them before deciding whether to update the horse race tracks. It is something they will do but it could be some way off yet.
On an aside whilst attending Ripon races yesterday I saw some in running player sat in a bar, with an i pod type gadget on a tripod with a video camera attached to it.The camera was trained on the racetech pictures and he had an earpiece in. Seen it all now!

looks like all the arena tracks have full SiS production crews now and definitely no difference in speed so above posts look to be accurate.

so some geezer with a mobile phone can stream live pics, but ATR, after nearly 10 years, still cant

not sure who told you that scoobytoo but the official plan is to update the 17 dog tracks, followed by the aw tracks, followed by a rollout for all UK SIS horse racing tracks sometime next year....i may be wrong but that's what i got told

If SIS purposely do not allow the fibre optics to go to horse racing tracks it will because of tracks such as Leicester using there influence to stop them - as they are desperate to retain the business of the track in running players - if this happens it will be a disgrace

In the current economic climate the corporate hospitality revenue gained by the courses from the track ,players is a godsend to them. It is plain that if it wasn't for in running places like Southwell, Lingfield, Segefield and Leicester would struggle to sell many boxes for midweek lowgrade meetings.
These courses wont be able to stop the advancement of technology, notwithstanding the requirements of a few hundred in running punters the equipment used needs to be improved and upgraded and eventually will be.
I know boxes are still hired at Turf TV tracks, altho probably on a smaller scale.It will therefore be interesting to see how in running goes when this happens.
Will people still be willing to drive the length and breadth of the country on a full time basis incurring the expenses for a 0.7 sec advantage? And will the players who have predominantly made their living on the track with a 2.5 sec advantage be able to still make it pay when their advantage has been reduced?
