Yep, WD Undern, Very good day on the greyhounds, it might be 'boring' as you hinted at the other day, when talking about regimented staking plans, but it can be very effective, and you will, i guarantee it, take enjoyment from winning bets steadily and you will take pride in it, much more than you would by overstaking and entering many many markets.
All the best

Acornel, have you seen the Cards on the RacingPost site? They've got all the times, splits, prices etc. for every race. (And the comments are often quite funny too!)

Ah. I wouldn't imagine anywhere does that. Timeform has the BSPs on for horses because it's owned by Betfair and they're trying to push people into using their exchange. However, even on Betfair's own greyhound form guides (which I'd imagine are simply reprints of the official information) the BSPs aren't noted.
If you don't mind trawling through the data, remember that Betfair let you download all the exchange data. I'm pretty sure that'll have the last traded price, and since I don't think the dogs are in-play, the last traded price will essentially give you the BSP. http://data.betfair.com/

Just passed £100k for the first time ever on Betfair! Probably still only just about breaking even over the past 10 years or so but I'm fukin proud of myself. Had my single biggest bet ever on man city to win at Fulham the other day so this is even allowing for a huge loss on that match as I wasn't around to lay off at 1.03 when city were 2 up! The last 3 months I have made c£92k.
God this post would really piss me off if someone else posted it so for that i apologise!

Well there are people on Betfair who make good sums of money. Possibly Benjack is one of them. If he now jumps up on every post bragging about how much he's made that day, I'll turn sceptical. But if he disappears from view again, I'll assume that up to now he's been keeping his head down and trading his way to a 100K by quietly making sound bets day in and out (which most certainly is possible!). Perhaps he's just temporarily popped up because he's pleased at having reached an important milestone and is keen to share the news with almost the only people on the planet who'll understand what an achievement that is. If that is the case and he promptly fades from view again, I'll be at a loss to explain what would have been in it for him to fabricate a tale about having made it to 100K.
Strangely Paul, some people around here are actually successful at betting, and don't have to rely on stupid chase bets on penalty shootouts.

Well done, benjack, hope you've made the transition from loser to winner. I would suggest you analyse what you have done carefully before deciding how to continue because I guess you don't want to lose it all again. The number of bets you have placed it quite crucial here in assessing whether you have a potential long term winning strategy or you've just hit a lucky run.

I can't seem to get my head around how you got so quickly from 2.5k to 10k and then since have been stuck around the 13k-10k mark?
Wouldn't it make sense to go back to the start and look at what markets got you to 10k?

It took me close to 4mths to get to around the £10K mark. When I set out to do this challenge I wanted do it betting on lots of markets and principally in my own way (pre event, inrunning, greening up etc) ....
Some of the big hits have been in the tennis - where I could say some bets went close (and not bad selections) at the end of the day they lost. F1 has also been not very productive. Greyhounds up until say yesterday wasn't very good either. More importantly it simply down to some key 'too large' bets which have slowed me up.
I am fully aware of what markets I am stronger at than others and I am currently addressing the staking, the markets I play and more importantly resisting the notion to lets just say 'lump on' every now and then.
There is always going to be some ups and downs and plateaus - I think from memory I had a very good run around 10 days. Not many people will remember but I actually had trouble breaking through the £8K mark .... where I hit it 3rd week in May and then did get near it for another month.

You can see Sir_Bond every now and then I have had a big daily drop and that has been due to a couple over staked bets going wrong or having some losing bets and sensing I needed to chase to get back on track.

It is also a fine line between correct staking and over-staking .... now I personally vary it depending on a number of factors such as the market, how well the days gone, odds, etc.
But rather than have an absolute stake amount per bet I am trying to get used to staying within the 0.5% to 2.5% mark (of the current bank).
But it is always a learning curve ... like in that rugby bet on Japan in hindsight the bet should have been around the £50 to £75 mark not the £125. One thing I didn't consider when setting the bet amount was the odds for the bet.

If I survive today ... I have a great story to tell later about what has happened to me today. Lets just say part of it revolves around blindly following other people's horse selections and going down too much simply because I was winning so much on the greyhounds .... yep it has been like that today

Well what a day ... a one of excitement and one of unbelievable stupidity to think I could blindly follow a couple of other selections (posted on Anyone fancy a lay thread). My own fault really but I was having such a great day on the greyhounds I wasn't able to do both so just followed quickly in on three (in particular) which lost me money early on and from there I was trying to get it back to a reasonable position. But Real Madrid didn't help .... Still here but oh it could have been so much better today if I had not stretched myself too far ...

Well u r pretty much spot on Lord B- except for one thing...... I was so excited the other night at reaching £99,700 ish I had £400 on spurs in the penalty shoot out as I was desperate to get over the £100k- ended up on £99,200!!! I did want to shout from the rooftops but really, who u gonna tell?- most people would either be jealous or want to know exactly how u did it or tar u with compulsive gambler tag, none of which I want! Also once I had got to about £40k a couple of months ago I was determined to try and reach £100k- it had never occurred to me before partly because I would never keep that sort of money on here (too dangerous and open to stupid bets) and partly because I've never got to that sort of figure before. I was up to £107k last night btw but now back to £94k I'm afraid to say!! Most of my losing bets over the past few weeks have been when I have been going against my normal judgement, in other words betting for the sake of it instead of betting to make money.

Up to 107K and then down to 94K in just over half a week? Wow. Sounds like you do some serious-size bets then. Now that you've got up to 100K, perhaps you should cut your bet size Benjack? You'll still be able to make good money, given your bank, but from what you say ('too dangerous and open to stupid bets' in your words), you've been a little reckless in the past. Cut your bet size and try to be a little steadier, and hopefully you can keep working your way to higher heights.

This suggests to me that being 100k up isn't that significant and you may just have had a lucky run. My advice is pocket a large chunk of it and start again with smaller stakes.

It is with a touch of sadness to announce that the challenge has today dropped back to the £10K mark where I am going to end this challenge.
It was a tough day today (through my own fault) and to be honest towards the end I was just hoping that the bet would lose so I can write this post.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my challenge but sense no matter how capable I am - without a well thought out staking plan, resistance to recovering losses too quickly and focus on less markets - I would always be swimming against the tide.
I am proud of my achievement and will use some of the money to spend on a nice holiday, some business capital expenditure and okay perhaps spend some on my wife ....
Whilst many others would have done the challenge differently I thank you for respecting my decision to do it 'my way'. I have certainly learnt a great deal about what I am good at, not good at and downright sh1t at which perhaps will put me in good stead for my continued betting ....
In some ways I have worn myself out being on here 24/7 for nearly 6 months so I will definitely be taking a break from logging on.
I do like my challenges so will use some of the monies to do 'short time frame' challenges.
All the best to all the people that provided me with encouragement and support through some of those rocky periods. You know who you are so won't name them .... all the best for your future betting.
Many may wonder how I bet and how I could involved myself in so many markets - as I have pointed out a number of times. I do pre-event betting, quite a bit of inrunning betting and for the particular markets some I look at a couple of factors while in others I look at quite detailed factors. In terms of horse racing I strongly look at them as 'athletes' with certain training phases, periodization, plateauing etc along with reading of the actual race plus things like odd changes and money movements .... however I am sure everyone has their own views on the different markets and that's whats make Betfair so much fun.
See you around the forum !

That's very sad Undern. How were your greyhound bets going? Your form there has been brilliant over the last few days. Isn't there at least mileage in continuing to play those, even if you give the rest of your betting a miss for now?

Well done undern, 8k up on the challenge is a very profitable return, all of us are learning all the time - you've made a nice few quid whilst doing it too. Don't look on back on it as anything but a learning experience and a success.
Hope you have a speedy recovery from your op.

Well I'm really not. I'm much better at writing then I am at conversation. Anyway, I'm working on some stats and they're proving a little tricky, so I can't chat here. (That would seem like squatting in Undern's house when he's away on a holiday!)

Well done on some great efforts here, Undern. You showed perseverance and rode the ups and downs very well. You had to put up with some pretty major setbacks - and the constant nuisance that is paulme. Can't he be reported to the forum managers for pestering people. It's like having a forum stalker.
Anyway, Undern. Have a rest, reflect on what went right with your punting and I'm sure you will come back and have even more success in the future.

Just seen that you're shutting down the challenge. Very well done quadrupling your bank in 6 months - great achievement.
Hope you squander some of your profit on sheer pleasure - make it worthwhile [;)]

Well done for making a few thousand £££. I thought you'd make it to £100,000. But at least you don't have to post anymore with paulme "the Betfair Forum Leach" on your tail all the time
