Always a good day when you don't lose too much .... but pity about the double hit in the racing as it would have been another nice day. Speaking of ... it is a tough call sometimes once you are in a nice profit position whether to stop for the day or continue (or perhaps with reduced staking) ...

Was up very early this morning ... hip is so-so but the one thing I am finding difficult is that I have been getting an extremely sore back (lower) during the night .... been causing me no-end of discomfort and all I can do is wake up and take some more pain killers ...
The only good thing is that there is the World Cup Rugby early hours .... trying to pick and choose matches and do a bit of research the night before in case I want to play (using my mobile) .... A seriously sh1t day. Shouldn't have gotten involved in the Aussie Rugby given I just lost the Sa pts bet (see above) .... all snow-balled from there. It is great when you have a good day but I must admit I am on the edge of quitting ... especially with bad days like today. So down quite quicky around £800 and then started poorly on the horses .... tried to then do some mini-challenges (ie: start with £50 or £100) but never got going .... If the bank hits below £10K I am out of here. I like playing on BF but gotta realise that without a structured staking, tightness in the selections and reduced frequency I might have a chance ... but I can always say I did it my way ....
I can have some amazing days and even I am impressed sometimes with some of the profits I can make (especially on the horse racing) ... but there is so much more to being successful than simply picking some nice selections ... Thanks LB for your post and thoughts. The last week has for me been a very good period ... only to effectively give it all back yesterday ...
It has certainly been an interesting 6mths for me and my strategy of playing lots of different markets and spending lots of time on here as been fun, sometimes rewarding but certainly sometimes leaving me frustrated at some of the bets I have placed and staking I have done .... If I look back if I hadn't got involved in say some of the tennis (which was the hit a few weeks back when I effectively lost £6K in a few days) and recently again at the US Open then things may have been a bit different .... I am certainly going to have a good think today and tomorrow as to where I go from here. Certainly been a fascinating time over the 6 mths but perhaps I may have simply worn myself out .... |

undern, you seem to view losing bets as mistakes. I'm sure you realise this is not the case and maybe you need to think about how you review your performance. To do what you're doing you must incur losing bets and sometimes losing runs. Imo you need to stop beating yourself up when this happens and look at the overall picture, which, atm, is that you are winning!

Yep I agree fully aware that losing bets and runs will occur.
It is more down to the actual stake played, the markets I get involved and the thought processes going forward after that with the rest of the betting for the day ... eg: F1 bets last week (and previously) where gone in too heavy and somewhat biased attitude to Mark Webber ... Also yesterday with just losing by 1/2 pt on one rugby bet (SA match pts) to then going too big staking wise on the Aussies in the rugby and some early hits in the Aussie racing ... I assure you despite a reasonable sized bank it is hard going into the rest of the day with over £800 down by mid-morning ... I assure you it plays on your (my) mind .... |

if losing £800 is going to affect you badly are you maybe better lowering your stakes/liabilities and betting a lower percentage of your bank roll?
one bad day or two and you could be looking at doing a very large percentage of your bank this is meant as constructive and not a dig by the way |

Well I went down around £1300 yesterday ... with £800 of it very early on.
Yep defn JD - another big day loss or two like that will eat in quite heavily to the bank and may simply not recover (or tbh have the will to recover). I am looking to get away from betting too heavy and too much. Might try "less is more" approach ... When I play during the day and even when I think about my challenge I seem to want it as quickly as possible .... need to chill out a bit and take some time and get on with other things in life .... Oh well - I have made a decision that if the bank goes below £10K I am going to finish the challenge (and take the smart comments that come with it) .... Good luck everyone with their betting ... As freddie has wrote "you need to concentrate on a few sports" dont be getting involved in all of them, the more sports you are involved in - the less time you have to spend in finding a good bet, you are not concentrating on a few sports you are rushing in the bets on many Find a weak or strong link in a sport and get your money down, you dont need to bet every day, if you can't find a reason to lay or back something on any given day "dont bet", spend your free day having a good study of future events and search for a weak or strong link Just one other observation, no offence meant, you are here at Betfair chancing your luck, you have won a lot of money chancing your luck, it is no good moaning when the luck is against you, you are well up on profit and I see no reason why you wont continue You are weakening due to a bad run "dont weaken be strong" I must add, there is no way you should have been gambling after an operation, in hindsight you probably realise you should have kept well away until back to good health undern "dont weaken due to losing some profit" fight back Good luck |
