just threw £60 away inrunning .... put up a lay on 'anyone fancy a lay thread' on forest Rhythm but as soon as I did it ... it went out in the odds. So couldn't get matched so watched the race thinking midnight opera might be able to burn Laustra bad off ... which it didn't ... very disappointed with that ...

Hey thanks for the post stevies5_mufc.  It will happen sooner or later that a lay of 50's will come in......my plan is to be walking away with the 100k by the time it does ;) I agree it might be tough getting matched on the football at higher prices but i'll cross that bridge WHEN i reach it ( crosses fingers ) [;)]

haha lets hope you reach that bridge then. i've seen plenty of 50/1s come in, just be confident in the ones you lay and then you cant go wrong, at least you chose it yourself and it wasn't just done because of the odds.

Just wondered if, or how much, research is applied before choosing your lays, only some of the games you are selecting (eg, Home Utd Vs Etolie FC - Lay 3-2 @ 38) seem like matches that might have been part of the Roy of the Rovers script? Is there more to it than Russian roulette?

It would be good, too, if, when updating your winning balance, you also stated the final scores of these football matches (or the finishing position of your nag).

With regards to how i am selecting my lays i am looking at previous heads to heads, last X amount of games and scorelines etc. and with the nags once again looking at form, who they are up against etc etc.  Just your basic everyday info that probably most people look at before they place any lay/back bets. Nothing to clever, im just trying to keep it as simple possible so there is an element of luck involved too, as with any gamble.

With regards to the final score being posted here or the position of the nag, i basically place the lay then forget about it till i check my balance.  If my balance increases then i know it was a winner, not really concerned what the result was if that makes any sense.

rjb - understand completely that you would wish to move on as swiftly as poss after securing another victory.

I've no interest in horse or dog racing, but love football. Trouble is, I've never heard of many of these obscure teams you have successfully layed so far, and it would be interesting to know the final scores of these games (which you must know when you check the outcome of your bet) and see how comfortable or otherwise they were.

I tend to agree with you that lays are the way to go. For example, laying 0-0 in the Schalke-Man Utd game on Tuesday seemed too inviting to be true.

Hi Again Plechy, thanks for the response.  I tend not to look for 0-0 results at inviting odds, because in my view any team can have a bad day, or any goalkeeper can have a magical day, so the 0-0's are alot more likely than say a 3-2,2-3,3-3 etc which does indeed happen, but the odds of it are alot less likely in my opinion.  Therefore im trying to keep to as extreme of a result i can possibly pick to give me more of a chance of reaching my goal.  Im looking both pre kick and in-play for something which stands out to me on the football, but i have to try and keep to odds of 50's or as close as possible.  Hope this makes sense

On average, you will lose a bet (i.e. it'll win) around 1 time in 50 if we assume the markets here are fair (and they're fairer than most). So you need to be aware if you get past around £250, you've basically been lucky, and to get to £100k you will have to be remarkably lucky. I have a mild hangover so can't be bothered working out the probability, but alas, it's slim.

Hi RJB. Good lukc with this, the discline is the hardest thing to overcome for sure.. I tried this purely with laying horses at big odds, started with same bank, think i tried to do it in 244 bets.. got up to about 1k, then lost it all because i lost discipline started laying things at much shorter odds.

Does this factor in premium charge :| ?
