At present I use Norton which works well, doesn't slow my computer and costs £30.00 a year. I'm thinking of changing to F-Secure (supplied through my ISP, Talk Talk) at a cost of £23.88 a year - the saving is the only reason for changing. Does anyone on here use F-Secure and how do you find it works? Many thanks if you can advise.

MSE is as good as any of the paid for applications.
Avast is free and updates daily. Turn the sounds off in the options menu as the voice messages can be a bit annoying.

For a saving of just over 1p a day, I'd stick with what you've got Montie, better the Devil you know. I think the latest Norton is great (Norton always has it's haters though) but it performs better than any free stuff I've ever used, AVG etc.

I recommend avast too. Another good free firewall to go with it is Comodo.
freddiewilliams try not to use free wi-fi services, which do not have any type of encryption. Far better to use a paid for service.
If you do have to use free ones then make sure the sites you are logging in to are the https versions. All major sites have a http and a https version. The second is much more secure.
If using firefox download the HTTPS-EVERYWHERE add on. This will force your browser to connect to popular sites (google, facebook ...) as https.

Montie. The best advice is for you to ditch Talk Talk. There are serious concerns about TT and Chinese PLA affiliated Huawei.
TT and Huawei are rolling out a package which is 'to provide customers with enhanced virus protection'. In the real world what they are doing is intercepting and reading everything you are doing on the internet. Every page you read, near enough every character you type is being intercepted and processed for whatever purpose they choose ...
Seriously. If you value privacy at all then you should ditch Talk Talk immediately. It is easy to do. Just call up and get your MAC code. Contact a new ISP (I recommend bethere.co.uk ) and in a few days you can be using a Spy free ISP.
Same goes for BT users. BT have recently introduced new Home Hubs with some very suspicious back doors left open. BT are also heavily linked with Huwawei.
To summarise: Viruses and trojans are not the biggest threat to your PC. Your ISP is.
