I have never started a forum topic or been heavily involved in the forum however having set my stall out to achieve the above from a starting bank of £10000, I just wondered who would be interested in seeing this evolve?
I have scratched around on Betfair for a while however lack of discipline has made me break even over the last 2 years.
I am now determined to achieve the above in order to do this full time, I am currently doing this part time whilst running my own business but hope to hand things over to a manager in order to do this full time.
There may not be a bet every day and it is not ALL IN as I have seen alot of these threads, There will be a lot of trading etc...so how do people want to see the results....People may say no thanks....just wondered as I hoped this would keep me more focused!

Second Time Around - judging by the bets you placed today, I'd agree completely with buzzer.
In your original post you said "I have scratched around on Betfair for a while however lack of discipline has made me break even over the last 2 years". IMO you still lack that discipline. Based on today, the chances of you getting even close to £250,000 are very slim to none.

For what it is worth I think that your problem is that you are over-staking in your in-play trading. As anything can happen when a market is in-play your stake should be equivalent to if you were having a bet.
At times it seems you've got up to 10% of your bank on a position in-play. This to me is too high. When the prices go against you, you are faced with the prospect of losing £1000, which is so unpleasant that you then find yourself taking extra risks just to avoid such a big loss. Your indiscipline stems from your over-staking.
Just my observation, good luck however you proceed.

To me yr prob. was the chase bet on a horse Hinton Admiral that has a history of coming to hand quickly. Wd you have taken this bet had you not been down on the cricket?
What sport(s) do you know better than the balance of opinion on here (supposing that for the most potentially lucrative sports the balance is informed by the opinion of experts and winners)?
You must also focus on the fact that your horse losses were over half as large again as on cricket.

nothing worse than greening out for a healthy profit, only to get an itchy button finger and end up losing loads.
when you green out, go and have a bath, make love to the girlfriend/or boyfriend, animal, whatever your into.
Good luck with your bets, this may be just a blip, i hope, discipline is the key, take that SA bet as a one off, a warning

These challenges always end in failure. Why put a time limit on your attempt to get to a certain amount of money, it's always gonna lead to over-staking which in turn will lead to loss chasing. How you cope with losses is the key to being successful and guessing by the lack of betting activity from second time around I'd say he should give up on the betting it's not for him.

Make a diary at the beginning of the month what events you will trade/bet on and stick to it. If you win great, if you lose it's all part of the journey but never ever stray from the plan.
Serious bit of advice for OP.Make a diary at the beginning of the month what events you will trade/bet on and stick to it. If you win great, if you lose it's all part of the journey but never ever stray from the plan.
..Make a diary at the beginning of the month what events you will trade/bet on and stick to it. If you win great, if you lose it's all part of the journey but never ever stray from the plan.
And keep a record of ALL bets placed so that you can look back and see where you're going right/wrong.

Hi guys, nice to come back and see your remarks, (Good and bad) I withdrew the profit I had for a week away in Portugal playing golf, After that bad day I needed to refocus, i agree with alot of what has been said with regard to over trading...fear not I have returned and the goal remains the same. I said I would learn things along the way!

Right here goes...I have today topped up the account by 15k and it sits at £25107 right now. I felt 10k was not enough to get me to where I want to be (For all the cynics, yes it is money I can afford to lose but dont want to!) There will be no more deposits...just the target date of 31/12/2011. I have just laid Tiger Woods to win the Masters 2011 @ 13 for £1100. I have thought for a week over my next bet and this one has not left my top 3 for the week whichever way I look at it. I have a back of 95 for £200 in running.
So do I withdraw anything over 25k each week? Your thoughts please genuinely on whether I should withdraw regularly or not?

STA: First I wd get a spreadsheet so you can show yr ongoing progress to anyone reading the thread.
Personally I cannot understand yr working: you say you lost 1,100 on the cricket and also had winning lays on Hinton Admiral (for 498), City Ground (for 500) and Calusa Caldera (you suggest for 880, but this may be a typo and you actually laid 40 pounds at 12, so for 480). Against a win on the horses of 100 less comm, this gives you horse losses of 1,380 or so and cricket losses of 1,100 since you last gave a figure for your bank.
This fig. was 1,416, so I wd have you at about 8,936 before you topped up. Either you had more bets or you're missing something or something is not clearly laid out so people can't follow.
Supposing you have an edge and winning strategy, the reason for posting yr bets is to make sure that you don't kid y/s and to make you think twice b/f doing anything rash. Why not be utterly consistent and be anal about stating yr bank and liabilities after every bet? If this slows you down, you are betting too fast.

B/f you think about withdrawing, I have further advice about yr punting.
I think you need to be more considered evaluating yr bets on a bet-by-bet basis. For each bet, whether you write it down here or not, you need to have a sense of its expected value (in other words, what wd you have to be paid for someone to buy the bet off you)?
You say that you've laid Tiger in the Masters at 13 and put a back up at 95. Does this mean that you think him a true 94-1 shot? Do you think that over an infinite no. of runs, yr Tiger bet will return on average 74.59 pounds (98.9474 times in a 100 winning 87.08 or so minus 1.0526 times in a 100 losing 1,100 over the no. of attempts). Wd you sell yr bet to me for 74 pounds, and if so, are you betting rationally?
(Actually your bet on these assumptions is just over half-Kelly, but that cd be by chance).
Do NOT say 'I have a feeling Tiger will lose, I'm saying around 100-1 to avoid regret but my gut is that he has no chance'. You need to estimate yr actual sense of his chance and stake accordingly.
In recording yr bets, you will have runs when you 'over-win' against yr expectations and runs where you 'under-win'. You shd be pleased w/ the former but not get carried away. Equally, you shd not suppose that the latter are just 'bad luck'. Winning bettors win b/c they are up against people who will always say they had bad luck.
Btw, everyone, pls excuse any bad arithmetic--I'm writing at a rush while running requests and am terrible at arithmetic, wh/ somehow has always been for me separate from the principles[smiley:crazy]

According to my calculatiions if you want to get to 250K by the end of the year you have to make over 6K a week, which is close to 1K a day assuming that you never take a day off. That is a big return anyway yet alone if you want to keep your bank only at £25K by making regular withdrawals.

STA, my concern for people on threads on this type is not that the poster fails to reach their target but that they suffer a big loss wh/ they're sure is a freak, deposit heavily again, then lose unluckily for another whopping loss.
