If you have placed a bet that has a tie e.g top scorer bet from prem league lets say 6 players all finish top goal scorer. you have a placed a bet £10 @20/1 e/w 1/4 paying 3 places. Is this bet void as there are more than 6 places????

No it would be settled as a dead heat

With 6 players tied you would get 1/6th of your stake on the win, so £1.67 at 20/1 , returning £35.07 and for the place it would be half stakes if there are 6 tied so £5 @5/1 returning £30 for a total of £65.07
