Communicate mininum acceptable service levels. For each week they are not reached, all commission paid by affected customers is refunded.
That should help them get their act together, and act as if they are running a company that is worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

Betfair should also tell it's customers that they can actually expect a reply when they spend a lot of time coming up with ways to improve the site.
I expect that many people are tired of hearing:
"We have passed it on the relevant department"
Only to see nothing done about it, and receive no communication. The CS staff have generally been polite and helpful, but whoever is in charge of actually implementing improvements, needs to look to the customers for ideas.
You get an idea, run it by some people who actually use the site on a day to day basis before implementing it!

Won't even be that BM. It will be a long technical speak how it's a one in a lifetime problem that could not have been planned for as technology never goes wrong.

An explanation of what went wrong and what they have done to avoid a recurrence wd at least be something.
When Australian sites go down e.g. IASBet, they give out free bets. I don't see bf doing this as they know they'll likely be bearing 95+% of the cost (the price of small ORs).[;)]

thats all you guys do, a phone call here, an email there and thats it!
these things don't change with that my fellow punters, LEGAL ACTION is the only way to go and the only type of action companies aknowledge and react to
but like i already said, we are too self-centered (and lazy) to even imagine puting a decimal percentage of our gains to pay a good legal team and form some kind of international association of professional gamblers or whatever its called, to defend our rights

If you are lucky you will get an apology within an announcement from Betfair but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Nothing will change unless one of the major bookies sets up an exchange.

I don't really think that will achieve anything anyway Lusitano. Co-ordinated actions by customers in this business is close to impossible on a large scale.

thats the sad part The Investor, thinking that its pointless
like everything in life, people need to know where to go if something happens but that place must exist in the first place or else no one will move, once they know where it is then they will go there, for sure

yes Coachbuster they definitely are but it only hurts if your the only one doing it, if that cost is divided by many its not that hard
many times before large amounts of people have suffered because of the monopoly of one company or a industry but then a few hard driven, though group of people managed to turn things around
i hate to be so idealistic but its the base condiment of change

but its the most probable and sound way to get things moving Coachbuster, unless there was a massive response by all punters in unison which i seriously doubt
"Besides Pro gambling isn't even a recognised profession."...yes exactly like prostitution, the oldest profession in history and i would also had to that... GAMBLERS
*btw prostitution is being recognized in many countries because they fought for that aknowledgment and made it happen

Lusitano, you would need to get every man and his dog to boycott the site in unison during Cheltenham to have even minimal effect. I seriously think that lot across the road are their own worse enemy ,eveyone has told them about their site being un- user friendly with the confusing lay outs ,why dont they listen ? they are more of a hinderance to the pro gambler than anyone ,all BF will be doing is having a good laugh about the situation.

They should compensate gamblers by reducing the max rate of commission and increasing the premium charge using
The all new liquidity generating Premium Charge = (GrossProfit - 5 * CommissionGenerated) / 2

Voiding all bets during the outage has to be the fairest way. If lucky winners have already taken their money and closed their accounts then Betfair pick up the bill. Hopefully that will get them to focus on fixing the problems

Lets try and look at how these events might pan out.
1)They have a meeting face to face, over skype, email, whatever. 2)Over the course of the meeting they decide they need to close the site for 15 minutes 3)They wish each other a good weekend and go home.
Now, this is the point at which they should notify the customers. As soon as it has been actioned.
Not literally at the last minute.

I suspect they'll give us a commission free week, or maybe 1000 free betfair points, or something along those lines.
Cynically I'd say they'll give everyone a £20 "free bet" (arcade/casino only, must be churned) which they'll more than make back themselves on the mugs :(

No Premium Charge for next few weeks, Thank You. Never gonna happen. If they compensate something it is surely something useless like free plays in some **** slotmachine.

it should probably be commensurate with a customer's volume so a 1% deduction for all customers on their commission rate for one week would be fair.
no decay gives nothing to those with over 162,500 points.

What is it about traders that make them think they're so important that the rest of us should pay for the running of the site while they get to operate virtually commission free. Their attitude is identical to that of the parasitic sc.um in the financial sector who are getting pay rises and huge bonuses while the rest of the country pays for their mistakes.
Suppose they deducted 22.5% of your lifetime profit as a running total making deductions / rebates after each market was settled and then each Wednesday they calculated what you would've paid under the old system and, if that was greater than what you'd already paid, docked the difference from your account (i.e. they're swapping over the normal and premium charge deduction times). Then
1) Everyone would pay more or less what they do now
2) The Ferengi wouldn't have a Wednesday payment
3) Almost all gamblers would have a Wednesday payment
4) Gamblers would be up in arms at having to subsidise the mainly worthless Ferengi.
5) The only people who wouldn't be whinging would be the Ferengi.
Can any pc calimero please tell us why the gamblers should have to make this wednesday payment?
Would giving those NOT being charged on the wednesday a rebate of 75% of their previous week's commission be a solution to the above injustice? If you think so then you need treatment.
Under the old system if you had 100 backs at 1.1 and they all won and I had 100 backs at 110.0 and one won, we'd both have the same turnover and gross profit but I'd be expected to pay up to 11 times the commission you would. The premium charge doesn't even go far enough to address that injustice as those paying it are still paying a lower percentage of their profits in commission than all other long term betfair winners. They should lower the max rate of commission and recoup it with
The all new liquidity generating Premium Charge = (GrossProfit - 5 * CommissionGenerated) / 2.

that's the problem with forums. the people who understand the least generally contribute the most.

^feck's unique blend of paranoia and homosexual fantasy.
when you find yourself thinking that people agree with each other but not you because they're part of some giant cottaging session you haven't been invited to, it's really time to close the lid and do something else for a while.

What was it you were agreeing on viv? It looks like nothing more than a wee group hug to me, something that seems to occur frequently among you Ferengi when it comes to not replying to the points I make.

When I use the 'exchange' my trust in being able to adjust and balance exposure is critical. I understand ppl use the exchange betting for different reasons. But I was particularly dissapointed that during Sat afternoon, Betfair made their site available again, including betting, I backed a horse-to-lay, only for the market to be suspended seconds later. The race-off was a good ten mins away, and when I called BF they couldnt do anything. Technical faults (even though theyve cost me (and others) numerous times over the past month) can happen. But one would think the most equitable solution would be to void both unmatched and matched bets, but instead the BF advisor just consoled me saying all unmatched bets are cancelled. I understand there are many, with some much larger 'naked' exposures than I was left with, whose trust has taken a knock. Apologies for the long msg.
