Yes. I am quitting Betfair and its fourms. I spend much too much time on here and I need to spend my time doing other things. In my heart I know I don't need to be here and in truth it's just a distraction from more pressing matters. This computer/internet world is not real life. Yes, I have a life. I have loves too. I love jump racing and I'll be at a point on Sunday to watch it in its true form. I will absorb myself in the Cheltenham festival once again, but when the last race is over on the Friday I will close my account down. I will watch the spectacle that is the Grand National and remember the first time I saw this great race as a child when Red Rum was king. I will watch sport without the taint of a bet. I will follow my sorry Charlton team as they descend further into the mire. But I won't be here. I'll be out there somewhere. I will cast my line into water when I want to speculate. I will see the sun rise and set and look up to see the stars. The air I'll breathe will be fresh. This has been a slow train coming. It has arrived.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I’ve been away a week and feel liberated - or more likely I’ve removed a lot of stress and calmed down. Cheltenham starts tomorrow and I fully intend to enjoy the festival and take part, but when it is over I move on. I’ve been to point meetings the last couple of weekends and have enjoyed them immensely and that might be the extent of my love affair with horse racing in the future (and one that I can share with my good lady). I’ve deactivated my betting brain and my mind is returning to more useful thoughts and pleasures.
