This could well be exceptionally boring but hey ho....

I am using a £10 bank. I will be aiming to make an average increase on my bank of 1% per day by trading. Usually holding a position for about 24 hours or so. I would expect about 7 trades per week. After a hundred trades I hope to have around £25.74.

Easy? I'm not so sure. I hope for around 6 wins and 1 loss a week. I'll be stop lossing around the 5% mark if it goes against me.
Yes I know it is much much easier doing this with small stakes, but it's good practise for eventual world domination.

I will be mostly trading on football, particularly Scottish. However trade number 1 is:

Stoke @ 1.7 (£10 win)

Come Saturday, Stoke will be a filler on everyone's coupons and they will look a safer investment than say Chelsea, who are lower, currently 1.59. There is resistance at 1.69 but this will dissappear between now and Saturday, as punters analyse a strong solid top half prem side meeting a side two divisions below.- The Stoke camp appear well motivated against complacency, and I expect them to field a strong side.  1.7 looks tasty. Sell price is 1.65 for a 3.1% profit,  but I can see 1.62-63 being taken at some point if not lower.

Of course this bound to fall on its arse after the big build up.

Sit with your head between your knees if the excitement is too much. Remortgage the house and join me.

Trade 2: Stoke back @ 1.68
           Stoke sell @ 1.65

Profit on trade 2: 17p
% after 2 trades: +4.8%

Trade 3-

Birmingham @1.74 (buy, matched)

Sell at 1.7

This is just about the top price since Market was posted, and must be due to the team news. It had touched close to 1.6 previously. So purely on Market reaction, I expect punters to drive this sub 1.7 by kick off, as they perceive value. Profit taking from the layers should also produce a bounce (down). Could be wrong though.

Trade 3: Birmingham win@ 1.74 (£10)
               Birmingham lay @1.7 (10.21)
Profit on trade : 2.1%
running percentage p/l  6.9%

Trade 4: man utd back at 1.17 for £10 (matched)
               Man utd lay at 1.15

This is near top price since Market opened. I hope punters who backed at sub 1.12 will back again to average up, and layers will profit take. There isn't a lot of time before kick off however, so caution advised. There is more upside I think as a starting price of 1.19/1.2. is unthinkable, yet 1.14 at kick off could be reached. Could be wrong. I'd just gamble the kids education this time rather than the house.

When: 20 Feb 11 03:36
Trade 4: Man utd back @ 1.17 for £10
         Man Utd lay @ 1.15 for £10.17

Profit on trade; 1.7%

Running % p/l: +8.7%

Bank £10.87
(trade 3 paid out 2p more than expected for 2.3% profit instead of my previously stated 2.1% due to unavoidable uneven green up)

Was unable to compound these. I should also have added to my crappy little Man Utd blurb, that I expected favourite backers to 'pile in' at 1.17, as it was on the surface (though not in hindsight) an excellent price.

Trade 5

Celtic v Rangers back draw @ 3.55 for 10.89 (matched)
                 sell draw @ 3.5 for 1.4% profit

In this market, Celtic are overbought and Rangers oversold. The draw also is oversold, not as much as Rangers, but Ive chosen it as it is the most conservative trade in the market.

Rangers should play 4-5-1 with a very dangerous counter attack and set piece threat. Celtic will be in a quandry - should they go 4-4-2, playing Hooper plus another and risk the sucker punch, or go 4-5-1?
A point apiece would be acceptable to both teams and fans. I think this is utterly uncallable. Any result could hit here (Celtic 3-0, Rangers 3-0, 4-4, 0-0) - and i think non-partisan bettors will sense this before the off.  And as a result of this, the draw looks very possible, and at a decent price of 3.55 for a fall to around 3.4/3.45. I'm away for a lie down as Im having heart palputations thinking of that 14p tomorrow.

Ibrox, sorry for late response - Its true there are faster and greater rewards in inplay betting, but conversely, I have a much safer way of trading - I shouldnt in theory ever lose my whole bank account really. You will be exposed to your trade principal being wiped out, or at least severely diminished by goals in first minute, last minute etc- I will never go in play. But your upside is faster, your compounding greater. Good luck to you.

5% is easy to recover and not to painfull,i am often in and out in 5 mins with 0.25% sometimes less, betis game this morning i was out in 4 mins.
I am also compounding seems to be the in thing at the moment.

Chris, I have a bot that would red up for me, but I can't be bothered with it- computer on all day, connection breaking etc. I am just monitoring it on my phone really- but i accept that I may get 'stung' and miss the 5% stop. Not from being unwilling to take the loss though, more likely when I'm asleep, or as you say, breaking team news surprises. Or just plain getting it wrong. Trying to be vigilant without developing an obsessive compulsive disorder. If I ever step up the principal then I suppose I am resigned to 24/7 betting bots.

Trade 5: Back Celtic v Rangers draw @ 3.55 for 10.91 (note 2p more matched than previously posted)
         Sell Celtic v Rangers Draw @ 3.5 for 11.06
         Profit on trade 14p
         % on trade; 1.26%

         Bank £11.01
         Bank %: +10.1%

Trade 6- Back Chelsea @ 1.81 for £11.01
Sell at 1.76 for 30p profit or 2.72%

There has been an over-reaction in the market to Chelsea going out the fa cup. The price has drifted from 1.6s to low 1.8s, and this trade is made near the top of the price range. The Champions League is now Chelsea's season, along with 4th place, and they will field their best available side, sending a strong back signal to the market.

1.69/1.7 have already been traded to reasonable sums, and come kick off 1.72/73 could be breached again. Limited downside on this trade with a good upside.

Hello there Uncle ho, enjoying your posting, but just wanted to say be careful with this Chelsea one. I do hope you are right and feel free to come back and laugh at me if you are, but i don't know if Chelsea will bounce back to 1.76.

I'm always wary of 2 legged affairs as this does skew the prices slightly against the away team as there isn't the same intensity that would go into winning the game outright. Would you put Chelsea at a shorter price to win away in the CL in the first leg than you would against Fulham in the Prem League a couple of weeks back. Anyway I dont have any money on this just offering my opinion, so feel free to ignore or ridicule at a later date.

Good Luck

UA - We'll leave the ridicule etc for the school yard- feel free to post your opinion. And in this case I think you could be on the money. I've saw Copenhagen in the flesh before and my impressions of them was as a workmanlike organised side. I'd rate them as surviving just in the EPL so probably not as good as Fulham but decent.
Its a good point about the 2 leg philosophy also, and i am worried. I feel anything in the mid to late 1.8s to 1.9 will be gobbled up by kick off, but Im concerned about the market's mistrust of Chelsea.
I am in a quandry about this- take a small loss now, or let it run further in the hope my initial analysis will be correct-that team news will drive Chelsea down come kick off.

This is the real test isn't it?
By:
U.A.
When: 21 Feb 11 17:23
You'd rate them as surviving just in the EPL but they have qualified for the knock-out stages ahead of Rubin and Panathin. They also drew against barca at home, i'd probably put them a little higher myself but that's just me.

Will be interested to keep an eye on this one for my curiousity now. My guess is they will hit 1.9 at some point but after that i don't know, they could start to come back in. It is a guess though, so don't read too much into it. Good luck whatever action you chose to do.

By:

When: 21 Feb 11 23:05
Hi Missing Rib - I believe 1.89 is the point the bet would have reached 5% loss. Currently about 1.85. Has not reached 1.89 or near it. (1.86ish max?)

I have sold £5 at 1.86 however to hedge against a failure to shorten.

I am however still mildly bullish about the prospects of as a fall -Anceloti(!) is saying all the right things and team news will be very positive. I can afford to allow a drift above 1.9 now and still fulfill the 5% stop loss, but I don't think it will reach there. How about you? What price do you think at the off?

Yes good luck with this uncle ho, let us know what you end up doing. By the way just curious as to why you think the Chelsea price will shorten when they announce a strong squad.

Surely everyone who is currently trying to trade this will already be trading under the expectation that Chelsea will field their strongest squad for this game given the size of the match. Do you think that people are trading thinking they will field a weakened side?

really disappointed in chelsea trade but you cant get them all right. A couple of posts here set alarm bells ringing and at least saved me from losing the full 5%. I was totally wrong.

one problem I have is I cannot post on forum due to work, but can place trades on phone- this throws doubts on any trades Ive made like the spurs one. is there any way to provide proof to avoid everyone going mental?

Hello there Uncle ho, indeed as LMansini says don't worry about what other people are saying. Fact is people don't like it when you start winning and acting like you know it all. You freely admit when you have got it wrong and as your total profit is only roughly a pound, for now it's not going to stir people's envious side too much.

By the way you shouldn't feel disappointed by the Chelsea trade, i would say that that has been your most skillful trade so far. To turn around and say "everything I thought was correct i think is actually not and i've got this one completely wrong" and then change your trade accordingly and accept a losing position no matter what is one of the hardest skills for any trader to master.

The Chelsea drifted was a bit silly in my opinion they should never had touched 1.90 in my opinion let alone odds against. I topped up on them after the drift, great value bet. Then again you've got your focus on trading, although I do wonder the logic behind it sometimes. Did you back Chelsea originally thinking the price was value, and therefore would shorten? or are you simply going on a basis of which way you think the odds will move. The two things can work in contrast sometimes, you might think something represents value but you can also hold the opinion that the odds will drift for example.
By:

When: 23 Feb 11 00:23
Letsall-
I read up on a fixture then chose the result I believe will happen. After that I give it a price for what I believe it should be. I only then look at the market and if the price is what I perceive as 'value', and it isnt anywhere near worst price in previous traded prices then I am interested. Then I take into account what little knowledge I have of market behaviour and try to anticipate the next stages. Obviously weight of money and resistance and support lines are taken into account. TBO, this 'technical analysis' is probably useless as most of the volume is not until close to the off.

With Chelsea I felt that 'class is permanent, form is temporary' in regards to playing a scandinavian side would be the overiding sentiment in the market. I hoped when people saw the team sheet with it's quarter billion line up they would instinctively back Chelsea, down in the 1.7s.
I did think Chelsea were value at 1.81, but only for a few ticks. I think I was influenced by being at the top of the current price range. I basically got my hand cut trying to catch a falling knife.

Trade 8 - Back Chelsea @ 2.04 for £10.68
          Sell Chelsea @ 2.02 for £10.78
          Profit 10p
          Running p/l +10.7%

Trade 9- Inter v Bayern
         To score Mario Gomez
Lay average 3.27 for £11.07 liability (matched)
         Back at 3.85

18 goal Gomez completed the game against Mainz, but his ankle ballooned up after the game, aggravating an old injury. Van Gaal has already stated he has confidence and a great back up in German international Klose if he has to start with him instead of Gomez. Gomez has said he has shaken off the injury, but there are real doubts about Gomez either starting, or completing the 90 minutes. Ideally he would be named as a substitute (his price would then drift out to about 7s I imagine)then come on for 15 mins, but if he starts, I would expect he would not play the 90 minutes.
Even a fully fit Gomez is too short at 3.27 at the San Siro (despite his 6 champions league goals)- this has the potential for a massive drift. If you phone up Beechams, you may be able to sell a kidney in time to get on.
