That will be right. GIRU all trading filth (a.k.a. Ferengi, striped blazers, pc calimeros, winslow boys, tobleroners, ****s of babylon etc. etc.). You are all dead men walking.

Ok, there was the first pc, then they made it worse for the long run, now this, if I'm not mistaken makes it even worse for the customers. Why is this good again? (not a pc payer)

Report viva el presidente! February 11, 2011 6:28 PM GMT
actually, though I was critical of it at first, the change they did make about 18 months ago made things better not worse, imo.

before it, some people were effectively stuck with crippled accounts. by resetting everyone's notional lifetime charges paid to 20%, they at least gave everyone the same chance to build a buffer against future charges.
Report Gerbs February 11, 2011 8:18 PM GMT
i stopped betting on here for 8 months prior to the change i was being charged the PC and it was a lifetime losing account,
i had changed my way of betting had a good 4 months got a good bit of my losses back   and had used the 1k allowance up and got charged PC

when it went to lifetime i was still minus gross P+l had about 11k implied comm and had paid PC
Report Eddie the eagle February 11, 2011 8:20 PM GMT
viva, are you forgetting that they also changed the yearly 1 k allowance to a once in your lifetime allowance ?
Report Gerbs February 11, 2011 8:23 PM GMT
they dont change anything unless they are better off

i got my 1k allowance back but there will be a lot more people dragged into it now with only 1 lifetime allowance

no, that's why I was against the changes originally. but the upside far outweighs that, at least for me.

previously I was in the position of effectively paying off a massive debt I was never told I'd been running up. having that "debt" wiped has been worth more than a grand.

So if Feck is right (and if I've understood correctly) the marginal rate of PC will rise from 20% to 50% of gross profit???

If that's right, it will be interesting to see if PC payers can complain any more vehemently than they already do.  I'm thinking probably not - complaints already seem to be at full volume - but I may well be proved wrong.
Report viva el presidente! February 12, 2011 1:07 AM GMT
why are people discussing something feck made up?

if I make up something out of thin air and say betfair are going to do it, can we go into the minutiae of how that will work as well?
Report Just Checking February 12, 2011 2:54 AM GMT
Viva, it's a bizarre example of the extreme and frightening gullibility of people that something that is so obviously b/s by such a warped and obviously unreliable source is actually taken, for even a millisecond, as reliable and worth discussing as fact.

No wonder tabloids exist and unbelievably, labour get votes

Woe betide Feck shouts fire in a theatre ..
Report jt45 February 12, 2011 3:34 AM GMT
It would be unbelievable if the Labour Party did not obtain any votes.

Most professional gamblers, particularly those of the trading variety, should be grateful that the Labour Party gained power in 1997. If they hadn't, gamblers would all probably still be paying 9/10p in the £1 on every bet struck with UK based bookmakers. The likes of BF would have been squashed at birth.

The social, moral and religious Conservatives, by far the most disturbing types of Tory, would have been very unlikely to have approved the progressive gambling legislation that New Labour passed under the glorious leadership of Tony Blair.
Report Just Checking February 12, 2011 3:45 AM GMT
:) jt45 I'll give you that, not much to argue there! And well pointed out. BUT, the philosophy that lead to that was liberalisation, not state control. If anything, it's this very VERY liberalisation that makes labour now disliked by its more backward ex followers, you can't deny that either.. Nothing a socialist hates more than freedom..

You're a comedian JC. When people like yourself talk about freedom what you mean is that there should be no rules that prevent you doing what you want but there should be a system and rules in place to protect you and shelter you from your actions should things go t1ts up.

What's it like in Broadmoor Feck ? how are the other loonies treating you ?
Report U.A. February 12, 2011 8:16 PM GMT
Ok let's have a go at this.

1) The reason Labour abolished the tax is because of the onset of online betting. If it hadn't then all the uk companies would have just got up and gone overseas and there would be no betting shops on the high street (or very few) as they could not compete with the competition from overseas bookmakers that the British public were now gaining access to on the internet.

I think the conservatives would have done this as well, it's just all down to timing, of course we will never know. That's just my opinion i'm certainly not saying Conservatives are better than Labour or vica versa as political debates can become pretty dull pretty quickly on the internet.

2) Feck - I'm afraid to say this but I think that there will always traders using this site. Your proposed PC change will not stop traders trading, they will just have to arb a bit more as well. They will still be here and still on the forum complaining about charges only maybe a bit more with increased charges. I don't know whether you will enjoy that more (more winding up opportunities) or it will annoy you more, only you can answer that one.

3) Traders - I don't know why you give Feck such a hard time, you should be applauding the work he is doing. As a trader surely the less people there are trading and doing what you do, then the better it is for you. There's less competition for you. Feck is doing all he can to try and put people off trading. Posts like this are genius, people who read it will think "oh the charges are going to go up in the future I don't think there's much point in becoming a trader" or "maybe i should stop trading and do something else, it's just not worth it". The best thing to do is surely to play along with it (well done Lmansini), rather than try and dismiss it. Feck really is the trader's best friend. Oh the irony, the irony...........

U.A.

As you stated, we will never know for certain whether the Conservative Party of that time would have brought in similar legislation had they been in power. However, there is very little evidence to suggest that they would have.

Whilst you are correct about the primary motivation for introducing the legislation, many governments elsewhere in the world that were faced with similar issues elected to respond in a rather less pragmatic manner.

Would the progressive elements in the Conservative Party at that time really have been willing and able to push through such legislation in spite of the strident opposition from within their own ranks and from the likes of the The Daily Mail?

I don't think otherwise. The all new liquidity generating premium charge is merely a means by which they can make the more parasitic betfair users carry the brunt of increased charges should they decide on an increase.

I haven't read all the thread, but how many times can BF change the goalposts? Luckily for me I'm a straight horseracing punter (with the odd bet on golf and football.) I've had a good run lately and have E.Mailed BF on more than one occassion to warn me if I'm near the filthy PC charge. Luckily for me, I can use purple to place a bet if near. It doesn't tell me that much apart from an offer to E.Mail them at the said address.

Having said that, since the PC charge was introduced I've upped my stakes and cut down on the number of bets I have. It would break my heart to pay this parasite charge. I'd rather trawl through the city putting my bets on. On the bright side, i'ts made me 'concentrate' that little more extra when reading the form, and I always have purple to fall back on....

It does have a ceiling on it you know .
But as you say maybe it has had a good effect on you after all, causing you analyse your betting techniques a bit harder.

That message means that your charges are over 50% of your gross profit.

what are you basing that on ante? because on the face of it it's wrong.
Report ante February 17, 2011 9:23 PM GMT
I'm basing it on personal experience. For a while I was right around 50%. During weeks when my commission generated / gross profit ratio was over 50% I would see that message and during weeks when that ratio was under 50% I would see lifetime/last week figures.
