No, they won't. Happy to help.
If EVERYONE had to pay the PC, I'd imagine boot ducks servers would crash under the weight of sign on requests.
Report luloo February 10, 2011 12:48 AM GMT
well young man,3 years ago if you had said no-one will ever pay a tax on betfair every one would have been with you,BUT
Report catflmasppo February 10, 2011 6:17 PM GMT
And he would have been right because the premium charge isn't a tax.

Never believe anybody who addresses you as young man.
The sign of a weak argument or point.
Report catflmasppo February 10, 2011 10:38 PM GMT
In my case it would be a sign of poor eyesight
Report Compound Magic February 11, 2011 12:24 AM GMT
The reality is that all on Betfair pay the PC. Very few pay it directly but the rest pay it indirectly and most don't
even realise that they are paying.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To tax (from the Latin taxo; "I estimate") is to impose a financial charge or other levy upon a taxpayer (an individual or legal entity) by a state or the functional equivalent of a state such that failure to pay is punishable by law.

I've lost so much recently that premium charge is looking unlikely now

bankrupcy could be close though
Report LMansini February 15, 2011 2:55 AM GMT
premium bankrupty ?

they pay you back everything above 20 %
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 2:59 AM GMT
I've only got a few markets left before being eligible for the charge but my commission is at about 25 percent i think so im ok for now

do u pay it?
Report pxb February 15, 2011 3:03 AM GMT
I started a new PC mitigation strategy a few days ago and ironically its running a significant profit. Although I don't expect that to last.
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:04 AM GMT
what kind fo strategy is it or cant u say
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:05 AM GMT
i was thinking of laying my selections on here and betting double stakes at the bookies

in other words winning with the bookies and losing on here if all went to plan
Report LMansini February 15, 2011 3:08 AM GMT
if your percentage is at 25 percent u wont pay it dude
Report LMansini February 15, 2011 3:09 AM GMT
this is lifetime percentage right?   25 %  u wont pay nothing unless you go on a large-ish winning streak
Report pxb February 15, 2011 3:09 AM GMT
I don't want to go into specifics, because if enough PC payers take it up, BF will surely change the PC rules.

Sorry, Avocado.
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:10 AM GMT
i might get a winning streak (hopefully) because im betting at short odds

sometimes i win ten bets in a row
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 3:20 AM GMT
The dak needs gamblers/ then we're flying

You can put up/seed as many markets as you like but the custom just isn't there yet. They need a MASSIVE advertising drive. I hope they don't hire the same PR boys as BF though
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:23 AM GMT
i can gamble on daq if people want to lay my bets

i dont demand good prices either i just usually take whats there
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:24 AM GMT
maybe i can do some arbs with you in the future rocket

i'll take a slightly lower price and u can lay it ten back slightly higher elsewhere
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:24 AM GMT
have i got u as contact on the new forum?
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:24 AM GMT
*then not ten
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 3:28 AM GMT
if there were a few more folk like you then it would be ok.

Nobody outside of the betting/[exchange] world has heard of dak yet and they are all just getting their heads around Betfair so I think we still have another year or two to go bar a major event.

So get your foot in the door and it might stay there when the big boys arrive.

Actually that's bollocks. You'll be kicked aside like trash so get your foot in the door and make the most of it
Report pxb February 15, 2011 3:32 AM GMT
The problem for us Aussies is getting money into a daq account.

Excepting CCs which I don't use, you have to go through moneybookers or the other mob and then you are limited to $150 without identity checks, which to date I've failed.

Pity they don't use paypal.
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:33 AM GMT
the reason i don't use it much is because there often isnt enough liquidity for me to get my bet on there

sometimes i want to bet 5k a few days before the game kicks off and there is only 500 quid available over there at the top price

pathetic liquidity over there compared to here sometimes
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 3:34 AM GMT
If you are going to be and have many transactions maybe have an account for transfers ?
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:38 AM GMT
i wanted to back chelsea on the first day of the season at homer to wba this season, i had planned to place the bet on dak and had agreed a trial 2 percent commission with them, which was good

i waited til the day of the match, expecting the match odds market to be full up with cash like it is on here but a few hours before kick off i could barely get a grand on over there a the top price so i didnt bother in the end and just used betfair instead
Report LMansini February 15, 2011 3:40 AM GMT
I've said it before and i'll say it again....

The best strategy is for NO ONE to use daq, withdraw all ur money, boycott those pricks,   bankrupt them

Thus causing a void,  a vacuum, for a company with more ambition / creativiy / spirit  to take their place
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:40 AM GMT
I remember a match a few days later, man utd at home to west ham, you could have got 500k on man utd to win on betfair at fairly reasonable prices, such was the liquidity
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:41 AM GMT
*home not homer
Report pxb February 15, 2011 3:46 AM GMT
You've a point there Mansini.

What may happen is one of the big bookies will see the writing on the wall and jump into the betting exchange business.

Despite what BF claims, developing the software aint that hard.
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:48 AM GMT
you do get some quite big lumps on dak to back sometimes

some 20k chunks laying short price footy faves, high profile games
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 3:50 AM GMT
there's only a thousand available to back milan at a top price of 1.73 for tonights champs league game

It is. And it's expensive.
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 4:12 AM GMT
will dak ever become significantly more liquid or will it always be a p1ss poor alternative to betfair?
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 4:19 AM GMT
Who knows, the people who will ultimately decide that are too busy taking lots of money out of Bank of Betfair

The profit-from-the-spread boys need traders and the traders need gamblers and the gamblers need many many liquid markets

Maybe all the above are the same thing and the dak just needs PEOPLE. But I don't think so.

Money drives everything. The profiteers on Betfair are offered an alternative and they don't move. What does that tell you ?

I do know I can't offer spreads  with them anymore as I do not offer enough to a tight enough book. But a year ago they were biting my hand off... so I think things are changing. But then things are changing at Betfair too.
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 4:37 AM GMT
they offered me a low commission rate and wanted me to put up offers rather than just taking cash
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 4:39 AM GMT
What market was that for ?

They usually ask for volumes half that of Betfair and tighter books
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 4:43 AM GMT
although there is a lot of room for negotiation.

the fact that any market can be added if you offer to seed and their total lack of markets for anything less than a major match shows there is a lack of takers at both ends... betfair must be too cosey. I can see how fecks 50% comm might not sound so crazy now. HOw much would it take for these MM to move? Or is the truth that they are all working off of or with one or two groups  who have no need to move ?

Betfair know but we don't/
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 4:48 AM GMT
the market i discussed with them was man utd to beat west ham at old trafford at the start of the season, i was a man utd backer

the guy suggested to me i take what was on offer at the top price and leave the rest of my money up there as an offer
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 4:49 AM GMT
i suspect it's betfair themselves who are putting a lot of the money up, they are just another bookie i reckon
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 4:50 AM GMT
that man utd market did end up filling up in the end and i would have been able to get on if i had waited but after the poor liquidity int he chelsea game a few days before i had decided not to bother with dak
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 4:53 AM GMT
Ah I thought you meant offering  markets for matches

What's the largest bet you've had matched on there ?
Report LMansini February 15, 2011 4:53 AM GMT
yeah, its in the best interests of betfair to keep **** surviving

cuz they useless pieces of shi t who will never challenge betfair for real...
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 4:56 AM GMT
I've never actually had a bet or deposited money into dak. I was planning to but didnt in the end.

Biggest bet I've had on here is 20k but down to betting 5k now because of a bad run

even 5k is too much at the moment really but i'll crack on with it
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 4:58 AM GMT
do u remember that chat we had on msn rocket and i was telling u about some 10k bets i was doing on the international matches? i ended up making a big loss on those games and have been scratching around since then trying to get my cash back
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 5:01 AM GMT
I remember the conversation but not your bets

Sorry to hear that. But then every week you lump on short priced favs so I'm not that sorry bud !
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 5:06 AM GMT
why, do u lay the shorties?
Report pxb February 15, 2011 5:06 AM GMT
Rocket,

I've worked on 2 online banks and a betting exchange isn't that different.

So I have a good idea how much a sports betting exchange would cost.

Ballpark USD 2.5M

Another 2.5M+ for all the operational stuff, but a bookie would have most of that in place already.

I bet 90% of BF's SW budget goes on all that casino and arcade stuff.
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 5:08 AM GMT
So £5m to develope, launch and run a betting exchange ?

I'd be surprised but I'm no expert.
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 5:11 AM GMT
give me a couple of years and i'll win the 5 million from here and use it to start up a new exchange for us all to use

it'll be like a man bites dog situation with me using my winnings from here to fund a rival business
Report Rocket to the FACE February 15, 2011 5:13 AM GMT
I reckon if you rocked up with £5m you'd be skint before you got past the development stage
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 5:17 AM GMT
we'll go on dragons den and get them to fund it
Report Avocado February 15, 2011 5:17 AM GMT
