Paulol - since you wasted so much of my time with fascinating questions on one of my threads - I have been checking out some of the messages you have been putting up.
To be honest - I actually think you are either a uni student or writer - researching gambling issues. So rather than waste everyones time why not just put up your survey of questions that you would like everyone to answer and then allow them either answer or not (rather than you keep chasing them for an answer time after time).
What does fishing mean? When you need some peace and quiet from your wife. What is the dartboard method? Stick a poster of Phil Taylor up on my wall. How did you get such a big bank? Rifled my childrens piggy bank. Why did you bet against your original bet? Felt sorry for winning so much with my first bet.
Good luck with the research [;)]

oh and see the thread "Zipper versus The Machine" undern.
also no-one has yet given a definitive answer as to the differences between the working models of bet365 and betfair... we wait and hope

Hey Paulol - I am not fussed whether you (or the Management contributor) doesn't think I placed those little challenge bets of mine. As for deduction of commission - my first post on that thread which as follows - the answer is in there somewhere:
I have been enjoying the Anybody fancy a lay thread on the horses forum over the last couple of weeks however I also enjoy little all in challenges. I remember following JohnnyWad famous 10% a day all in threads - so I will be attempting in total 5 seperate all in attempts over the next few weeks each starting with £100.
Laying horses, football and anything else I fancy. To keep it simple no commission adjustments.

ha yeah i know you mentioned the exclusion of commission from your "little" challenge.
well bet 365 is a traditional "black and white" betting site. betfair is not. what is trading? what do people mean when they say who got such and such at 1.01 and money pending on a certain odd. you need a degree in gambling to know all this stuff.

if you win a bet on bet365 does the money come from the company and if you win on betfair it comes directly from other punters and BETFAIR take their commission?
is that right??
ok genuine silly question:if you win a bet on bet365 does the money come from the company and if you win on betfair it comes directly from other punters and BETFAIR take their commission? is that right??
so that makes betfair a very tight business model, akin to say eBay. people trade, they sit and take commission regardless. whereas bet365 doesnt need another punters bet to be "matched", just takes it.
sort of

Any losing punter is almost certainly better off using bet365 and ignoring the exchanges. A winning punter would obviously normally also be better off there as well, but probably they won't be given that opportunity for very long.
365 offer a jaw-dropping array of in-play markets, very competitive pricing, no commissioin, I would guess they also offer virtually the most generous free bets and concessions of any bookmaker except perhaps PP? They are also prepared, contrary to popular misconception, to lay MASSIVE bets to proven recreational gamblers who aren't looking to pick off prices shorter on here etc or consistently beat them.
I would also assume that if you lose a chunk they will lay out the red carpet treatment for you with hospitality etc, in a way that an exchange operator with their much lower margin cannot afford to do. You will also probably lose your money slower to 365 than an exchange, with no commission and no danger of falling prey to in-running hooverers who will rape you quicker than a traditional fixed odds layer. I would guess newbies who deposit their first grand to an exchange probably lose it quicker on average than people who deposit with traditional betting sites. Carried away with laying instead of backing, overstaking in-play etc. The model is more like cocaine than traditional fixed odds.
It's really a no-brainer if your bet for fun and lose overall to go for a generous fixed odds layer like 365, but I'm not sure that this is a maintstream view here where many are working strategies and looking to lure in another lamb to slaughter for themselves...Lose slower, lose less, get treated better; stick to fixed odds until you win consistently. Then you will have little option but to return!

Also they'll lay about 1500 max to a losing punter, while the likes of pinny will lay about 60k to a winner. It really is a no brainer not to use them unless you're a very sick puppy.

I know everyone has their faves but really?
In fairness they don't have bad promotions, but the likes of WSEX and Bodog hit them out of sight, even VIP (Who I wouldn't recommend to my enemies in fairness) give better promotions.
As to a jaw dropping array of markets, many of them are suspended for huge chunks of matches in running and often they don't re-open at all. A lot are re-wordings of each other and they don't offer more than the likes of Billies and Stans when you factor in the doubling up.
They're a usable site but certainly not close to being one of the first you'd recommend to someone who wants a casual punt with a bonus and nice odds.

Of course, as that's as close to free money as a bookie can get. If somone wants to back at 15 on the day in a big league, and it's trading at 17-17.5 here, I'll take a MASSIVE bet too from a proven recreational gambler
for in-play betting any losing punter would not be better of anywhere else other than betfair. In fact they would get a completely crap deal anywhere else pretty much by default, as the bookies operate with ridiculously large margins for error in play.
Bet365 and VictorChandler are the only big UK bookies that haven't limited me yet. Today I got a price of 26.00 with Bet365. The max I could get on was £200.
I made the correct price about 35.00 by the way. Other UK books were going at 19 and 21.
Laid on here at 15.00. Nice trade, except my liability here was £13k, and I was only able to back for less than half that.

I started by laying a bit at 40. The odds were moving against me. I still made it a 35 shot though, and was laying at 26, then 21, and I just kept getting matched. When I was still getting matched at 15 I started feeding 100s into the market, and made a nice little sum

this is becoming the norm across all bookies, 365 may have got their first, but others are quickly catching up.

Think I've said it before on another thread but 365 are not as bad as people make out and are definitely prepared to keep some winners' accounts open to a vaguely reasonable limit for "following" purposes.

Never ever plan to bet big amounts in unknown events offered by bet365.
I had enough on them ..
Placed a bet on a favourite player to win the set in a badminton match .. he was leading 17-13 ..and the odds is 1.10 on that player to win the set ..
I placed a $5k bet on him to win the set @1.10 to earn a quick $500
The livescores gone to 20-13 ..then suddenly the scores crash ..no scores available .. after few minutes , when i check my account .its stated i lost he bet ...
how on earth do a favourite player get beaten from 20-13 up and more doubtful is, why the scores crash at 20-13 ??
I believe bet365 have full access to unknown events which they offered ..

(Sorry for my poor english, i hope somebody will understand.) I would like to know from that 100 million profit, how much did they make over the internet , and how much in the offline street shops, because the longterm winning on the internet is impossible if they restrict the stakes. The joke is that they will restrict even those who are in negative, but tried to play like a smart bettor or something. So why these companies run online websites, why don't they shut down, if the serious betting is not possible, just with tiny stakes for stupid kids from the playground. Or is it just marketing that in the XXI. century every betting company have to run online websites pro forma, but the big money surely will come from the street shops?

ok personally i prefer in some ways the betfair concept, basically the market view is good, you take a bet , then you can can bet again if it aint gunna win to try and get it back, its all there to see,or greening up by setting a price and hoping threy both get matched or lay bets , good idea too, bet 365 have so many options in play, good mobile phone service, betfair just set the options prematch for a game and sometimes i prefer that to the moving line, its set for the game , thats it but maybe betfair could have a few more options as in total points etc.one of the things i do like on bet 365 is the corner options in soccer games, one thing i do know that baseball is a crap game to bet on in any site.

Plenty of good sites to bet baseball though. At least depending on today's ruling.

Forgive my off topic intrusion. I'll be in Canada and the US for 20 days in August. I only have accounts in only betfair and bet365. You guys know if I'll be able to access them from the US?
Thanks
