From Barclays Wealth ?.
Definitely money laundering methinks.
That for all the high rollers with accounts in exotic offshore locations isn't it ?

Btw a pretty brutal letter isn't it ?
Pulling no punches on that one.
Must be some sort of very serious infraction.

not necessarily so - open an account, pay in a modest amount of cash (say 3k) into a personal account and the cashiers are told in no uncertain terms to question where the money has come from. If they don't then they face disciplinary action. The banks are becoming paranoid about money laundering and plenty of innocent customers get caught in the net.

Remarkably there was NO cash transactions on the account. However there were a number of large transfers to and from some people I do business with. Although it depends what you call large, the largest was £30k.

They were unwilling or unable to understand that these were the result of people placing bets on my behalf.

I had my lawyer deal with the bank on my behalf as I was afraid it would impact on other banking relationships that I have and have been assured - despite the tone of the letter - that this is not the case.

They went as far as to say I could open an onshore Barclays a/c in the UK and I will be testing that this week.

I hate banks
