a realistic view, most people cant see that they are not strong enough to make it work on here. You win and keep winning, you become invincible. Then BOOOOOM... a sequence of unlikely outcomes that blow your bank and winnings. It happens every single person on here be it big or small.
Basically what people play on here is snakes and ladders but with real money. I tryed to make easy money here but it doesnt exist. Bet small to win big thats the way forward. |

are you saying IT CAN'T BE DONE?

you could be building a proper career, interacting with people, doing interesting things, and making far more money, far more securely!

Not necessarily, it depends how much of your bank you risk and what your method is. If you're a position taker that survives by increasing stakes after a series of losses, then yes I think that will get you eventually, but it doesn't have to be like that. When I started here I survived by chasing losses in a minor way, it can work for years if you get lucky, but I realised that I needed more security than that so decided to concentrate purely on methodological gambling using strict staking, so now there is zero risk from unlikely outcomes. I don't boom and I don't bust! Having said that, most wouldn't stick it as there is no gambling buzz, just a sence of achievment at the end of the month. |

Howard, it's not realistic to imagine you (or me) is going to make
loads of money but it's possible to make some money. Personally I treat it as a serious hobby and over the years have made a profit every year bar two, although definitely not enough to live on. I do what I do because I am in a financial position to do so, enjoy the contest between myself and the market, always learning, looking for the edge(especially in running). It's only futile if you don't enjoy the cut and thrust, and I enjoy that. BTW forget about the challenges, most people have seen enough of them and they prove nothing. GL and stay honest. |

Lol Coachbuster, I can see both sides of that argument, 9-5 is no fun, but sitting here up to 10 hours a day 7 days a week isn't much fun either. I can see why some people operate in syndicates.

By:
I didn't realise people operate in syndicates on here.

I imagine most people are on here because they dream of making hundreds of thousands a year and living a glamorous lifestyle.I imagine that most people who join Betfair with that dream aren't here for long. You could be building a proper career, interacting with people, doing interesting things, and making far more money, far more securelyWhy can't you do both? http://green-all-over.blogspot.com/search?q=%22go+full+time%22

I make a point of putting Radio 5 on each morning. This is not just to keep abreast of my politics and sports bets but they also provide traffic reports. Even if I have not been matched overnight, reports of delays on the motorways always cheers me up. |

I didn't realise people operate in syndicates on here. On poker they most certainly they do. I will admit to discussing bets on IM and agreeing not to gazzump or to share the spoils. I am not sure if that counts as a syndicate. |

This, I don't enjoy it on here as much as I used to but it's still far more appealing than the grind of a 9-5 |

We have a pleasing blend of views on this fred. I do like your use of "hope this helps" duncan, this always goes down well. [;)] |

Yep, it's usually red rag to a bull, is that

I agree with Duncan, but I don't think it helps much.

Up until five years ago I had a job I loved and a decent career. I was forced to give it up because I was making so much on here and I loved it even more. Now I get to spend as much time as I like wi th my five young children, I can afford to do whatever I want and I work as little or as much as I like. As it happens I do about 30 weeks a year properly, and the rest of the time I dip my toe in when I feel like it. If anything I have too much spare time. Not only can I not think of a single job I would rather be doing, I cannot think of a single thing I would rather be doing.
|
By:
What's your MO, bayes, if you dont mind me asking? Bots, trading? Sounds like a nice gig anyway!
|
By:
Bayes
If you really have 5 young children I doubt you have any spare time at all |
By:
About 15% bots 85% trading. My MO is finding value via mathematical modelling.
Jimmy. 5 kids - 2 up to 11. When they're at pre-school / school I find myself twiddling my thumbs a bit. |

Ok you guys , just read your post ..now there aint anything in it for me here are the facts 90% of gamblers lose why its an odds against
|
By:
Gamblers you have a chance but you have to specialise.Take Mohammed Ali he only boxed, take Elvis, he only sung, take Zipper, he only does the horses. You cannot be an expert at everything.
|
By:
And just like Mohammed Ali, sometimes you have to pick yourself up off the canvas!!
|
By:
Elvis acted too.
|
By:
Bayes ,are you solely Footie or Footie and Racing ?
|
By:
Coachbuster, I do everything. Bots are pre-off racing and football. Manually I trade anything in running that I can model, which means most sports except racing. Football in running is becoming a loser for me so I will do less of that this year. My best sports last year were tennis, snooker and darts.
|
By:
Bayes - weren't you the chap who posted 500K winnings on the golf a few months back?
Overall - it makes you wonder where the money comes from. |
By:
zipper, you really talk a lot of nonsense at times.
|
By:
kenilworth .. so dont listern
|
By:
Alot of us bet for pleasure, relying on a profit from betting would drive me insane.
It would be more stressful than most would be able to imagine having to make a living on here. |
By:
Shane , If you cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen .
|
By:
No Betfairy. I had one biggish golf win this year, but it was of the order of 30k I think. On reflection cricket was my third best sport I think, followed by darts.
|
By:
Thanks for the reply, Bayes.
|
By:
zipper, I read it, but laugh at it.
