If Chelsea were in the position ManU are,
(3 points clear and a game in hand) they
would surely be odds on, not to mention
the disruption going on at Stamford Bridge,
(Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Wilkins etc).
Ferguson must be thinking no one else wants it,
so 11/8 looks a big price. Arsenal look the
alternative at 5/1 to chase them home.

If no one had watched any games this season and everyone was purely betting on stats then United would shirley be a shorter price. However they have been so underwhelming that I couldn't back them. There is a dearth of creativity in their team, especially in midfield and I can't see them improving dramaticallyin that respect. However the other teams all have flaws too. Chelsea have the best team and I think Essien could power Chelsea to the title.

Agree with Francis; people taking the view that there is a gap between United's Position/Points and their performance level.

So they will only carry on getting the results needed if they raise their performance level by some way, which seems unlikely as they just aren't that good anymore.

They could win it of course but 11/8 seems a fair enough price rather than a good one, as they will need Chelsea to continue underperforming.

So do you guys think Chelsea better value at 2/1
or that the betting is about right ?
Report Avocado December 25, 2010 6:46 AM GMT
Chelsea will get better I think, Arsenal tend to fade away a bit in the second half of the season.
Report Avocado December 25, 2010 6:46 AM GMT
Either man u or chelsea should win it so backing both of them at odds against shouls guarantee a profit.
Report Avocado December 25, 2010 6:47 AM GMT
should
Report kenilworth December 25, 2010 10:05 AM GMT
Backing them both at odds against would indeed show a
profit, albeit small. 11/8 and 2/1 dutched is of, course,
about 2/5.

And while they might be the most likely winners, it is not guaranteed.

arsenal the value for me
Report Francis Benali December 26, 2010 11:01 AM GMT
I wouldn't be confident enough to back that 2/5 shot. I think the league is open for the team that has the ability to go on a decent winning run, and I think Arsenal and City are capable of doing this too. Think the best course of action is to enjoy watching the season unfold with no financial interest in it.
Report kenilworth December 26, 2010 3:04 PM GMT
Neither would I as think Chelsea a very poor price, should
be around the 11/4 mark IMO.
Report kenilworth December 28, 2010 9:56 AM GMT
Chelsea now 4/1 (nearly) should 6/1+
Report DaveEdwards December 28, 2010 10:37 AM GMT
Agree with your OP Ken.

It is difficult to conceive of a situation where Fergie is going to mess this up. Man City & Chelsea are already out of this.

Assuming Man U win the game in hand (which was against Blackpool btw) they would be 9 points plus the g/d clear. It's just not going to happen for Chelsea this year.
Report Avocado December 28, 2010 11:39 AM GMT
Chelsea should win their next two games and that might boost their confidence a bit. They've got most of their players back from injury, not sure what the problem is with them at the moment.
