some are available on the market, i see. is there anything
that i should be considering before a purchase.

only want to be able to bet within margins when i'm not at a terminal.I also need to take into account horses that drift alarmingly so "no bet" and some that are well backed
and then be considered under a certain price occasionally.

is it true that you can specify the windows, say, only 1 minute or zero minutes or 5, before the specified off time?

yes.

via Gruss.

you will need to code the above, via Excel, and use GRUSS to communicate with BF.

GRUSS lads cannot teach you Excel - you must learn same yourself.

thanks.
i know a bit of excel, but its all greek to me regarding codes
and visual basic.  somehow i must have misunderstood what these
software peeps were selling, because i got the impression it was
"all made easy, and done for you" already. one in particular
was called galloping punter and wasnt a silly price.

This should be your only port-of-call.

The HELP functions on both Excel & VBA are also outstanding.

Will take hard work, but VBA is very user-friendly...dedication/hard-work/effort & within a few months, your model will be ready for testing with live cash.

Alas, there are no easy "ways out" in this game.

so what i want has not actually been invented yet or not on the market?
Report steeringjobnap • November 3, 2010 4:11 PM GMT
the interface to Betfair's API has - this is what GRUSS/BETANGEL, etc, will do.

however, the specifics of the model you propose in your first post, will need to be coded, by you, into Excel. You will have to learn this yourself; fortunately, the 'NET is full of thousands of websites that can help.

I suggest browsing GRUSS/BETANGEL's sites to see how their tools interact with the Excel model you must build.

GART

try this.

http://tinyurl.com/23vrjx3

I Think it has all the features you require and doesn't require any brains or cost anything.

I spent ages learning gruss & excel and wish I hadn't bothered as this works fine.

very wittyLaugh

i am not someone who does not work hard
i know where my money is going
occasionally i need certain parameters to apply
IFF i am not at the terminal.

if you think i am something else then you are being a little cynical and a bit unfair.

seems par for the course to be misunderstood on a forum.

what i have seen, is the word "conditional betting" applied to adverts of some software, so with my puny knowledge of it, you may
like to give me the benefit of your wit as you kindly did

OR help.

there are software packs out there for betfair use.
i am not "a trader" as i understand it to be.
that is: someone making money off fluctuations and a little less
of forming your own tissue.

my main needs (to be clear)
are:
to back or lay, close to the off time, certain horses, if their current price is within a certain price window and especially
need to know whether these bets, if submitted and not matched, remain as submitted unmatched bets (which i suppose they would be thinking about it) .
re "close to the off time".... this is essential. i.e. bets are submitted only when i want them to be, just before the off.
maybe this is the difficult part of the program.

gruss gruss gruss has anyone mentioned gruss ?

You're unlikely to get any other answer as you've already been told the sensible one.

I'm not repeating myself a 3rd time.

Rapidly turning into a "Fine As Frog Hair Grooming" thread.
Report gustav • November 3, 2010 6:18 PM GMT
you will be able to do this very quickly in market feeder pro - get the free trial and see if it is suitable for your needs.
Report gart • November 3, 2010 8:02 PM GMT
thank you all for your help.
not a face to face conversation has made this a bit ponderous.

if i wanted grooming i'd go to the pet salon, fwiw.
and if i wanted sensible answers..... i'd probably still go to the pet salon. if i wanted technical help... well here is pretty good.
will have to download a free trial or something or email the product makers, which is what i should have done in the first place
i supposeCry

Fwiw I think I understand where gart is coming from.
The hardest thing about writing any sort of technical help guide is that the writer has to both really know all the ins and outs himself but also has to somehow take himself back to the days when he knew absolutely zero.
And mostly they fail.
They all assume to much basic knowledge in the reader.
Many, many people are essentially computer illiterate and will remain so forever.
Example, how many of you have been driving a car for years and yet know absolutely nothing about engine mechanics.
I even personally find the HELP functions on excel virtually incomprehensible on most, if not all,  the times I dare to venture into it.
And like gart I'm not the slightest bit embarassed or afraid to admit this on a public forum in the hope of finding some form of meaningful assistance on where to even start.
He's had some reasonable answers on here so far, but if some person could perhaps reply by assuming he knows absolutely nothing of import about using these types of betting tools, then he might learn something really useful, apart from just reinforcing the fact that he knows absolutely nothing.
And obviously, I'm afraid to say ,  I am not that person.
There gart, now it has turned into a FAFH type thread.
Report FINE AS FROG HAIR • November 3, 2010 8:55 PM GMT
I even had some custom designed bots made for me and I had to get the programmer to show me exactly how to turn them on and off.
He couldn't actually believe I was asking such basic type questions at first.
But ironically, after we got to know each other quite well, he went on to say that the instructions I actually gave him as to what I wanted the bot to do and not to do, were some of the clearest he had ever received.
There are advantages it seems in being a complete layman at times.
Report waynebrayn • November 3, 2010 9:46 PM GMT
gart,

Gruss Betting Assistant linked to Excel will probably do what you need, for £6/month.  You will need to understand how to use triggers (using formulae in Excel), but you'll find their forum very helpful if you get stuck.
Report StefanBelo. • November 4, 2010 11:11 PM GMT
Use Bfexplorer PRO and all you have to do is just setting bot parameters, no Excel programming required.
