I'm wanting to set up a macro to auto sort a block of cells.

the problem arises because the column i'm wanting to sort from takes it's value from another cell

for instance  A152 takes it's value from the following =A2, this returns a number, some cells below A152 are blank.

When i try to sort the block of cells, it doesn't recognise column A as numbers it gives me the A to Z sort option.

Once the numbers are sorted, do they remain that way?

If yes, then before SORTING

a) COPY THE COLUMN
b) KEEP THE COLUMN HILITED
c) PASTE SPECIAL / VALUES
d) then SORT

I would say that your problem is one of relative reference not absolute
reference.
If cell A152 takes it value from A2 change the formula =A2 to =$A$2 which
is an absolute reference. Change all cells that are in the sorted range that
refer to cells outside the sorted range to absolute references.
Hope that helps.
