Hi all,

im looking for a bit of advice as regards to what there is on betfair. im a poker player myself, but i have an interest in horse racing, and you will probably see me posting comments on the horse forum sub forum.

My basic questions, is what types of betfair users are there,

I know theres people who just bet on events, then theres some who lay markets.

What is a bet-trader and a bet angel

and is there any other types of users on betfair that trade in another way?

all answers are welcomme, im just thinking of trying to invest some money, won from poker and interested to see the ways you can do that on betfair

thanks

Backers, layers, snipers, hooverers, traders, arbers (normally prefixed with "filthy") and scalpers, whatever they are.

Most winners do so by cheating with betfair's blessing. Hope this helps.

fast pic players, insiders, botters, field book layers and backers, hedgers, traders (short term momentum, stategic, price and form based, inplay spreadsheet based) system dreamers, compulsives, shrewdies, casuals and conglomerates.

what's a sniper?

The Betfair cross matching bot is the only scalper, although arbers are also scalpers in a manner of speaking.

Thanks Clydebank,

I know the bf bot as the "skimbot".  Your term "cross matching bot" infers it with a bit too much respectability for my liking.

I know snipers as being similar to hooverers but not necessarily at the end of an event so when a rugby try is scored or a wicket falls and they rush in a bet perceiving an advantage.  I regularly see them make a right hash of it though.  ie. try not given or no-ball. Sometimes they just hammer in the wrong price, which is invariably more entertaining than the event we're watching.
