You could exchange one of your hands for a minor offense

I have just come back from a week in the Middle East. I found in Qatar I could open Betfair, it wasnt blocked. In UAE it was blocked. In Jordan it was open and in Lebanon I could get on. Bahrain was blocked.

I traded whilst in Qatar, from my hotel room....then I had a flashback to the First Matrix film (knock knock) and closed it down. I was breaking the law after all!

Gerbs is right.

No gambling sites are accessable from dubai....no p0rn either.  Made my decision to stay in a hotel with wireless broadband a bit futile

online gambling is illegal in those countries.

Greece?... I logged on to B/F at my hotel last year and had a few bets, didn't have any problems.

I've lived in Dubai for 3 years now.

The Betfair site wasn't always blocked, but it has been for the past couple of years.

If you have an account already opened from the UK, there are still ways that you can access it.

when i was there bf was blocked but the third exchange was not .You can get access in the internet zone anytime .
Report Northbouy July 5, 2010 3:41 AM BST
how can NZ be illegal, they have a tote that accepts online bets.
Report haltuna1 July 5, 2010 9:26 AM BST
Betfair mobile works fine on your phone, or just use a program like 'gotomypc' to access your home computer. slower but gets around the problem.

USA missing from your (dubious) list
Report euroscooby July 5, 2010 8:34 PM BST
There is a huge difference between illegal to bet online in a country and actually doing it.

It is illegal to drive at 71mph on a motorway but plenty do. So, sure you can log on in some of these countries and bet but dont make it legal!

As for the list, dubious or not, here:

New Zealand????

Yep. Remote Interactive Gambling
Section 9(2)(b) of the Gambling Act 2003 prohibits remote interactive gambling. The definition of remote interactive gambling includes “gambling by a person at a distance by interaction through a communication device.”

Tote I assume is state run. bit like a lottery.

^^  Maybe you need to read more on the NZ Gambling Act 2003.
http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Casino-and-Non-Casino-Gaming-Fact-Sheets-%28Gambling-Act-2003%29?OpenDocument

Specifically Fact Sheet #27 on the above link includes this statement "It is not illegal for someone in New Zealand to participate in gambling over the Internet if that website is overseas for example".

Betfair Mobile works in Dubai (from a UK handset at least), Betfair site can be accessed via a proxy server
Report Sportsadvisor March 23, 2015 7:29 AM GMT
betfair app currently works in Dubai I'm told, apps working in differing countries appears very random
Report pawras March 23, 2015 8:08 AM GMT
I've generally found if I can't bet via the wireless internet in a hotel room I can via the mobile site on my phone or using the phone tethered to my laptop
Even then though I seemed to remember it could be betfair was blocked and bet365 wasn't or vice versa.
