If x^y=z, what does y equal?
By that notation I mean x to the y equals z.
I have asked this before but can't find the notebook I wrote the answer down in. I
think
y=(log z)/(log x), but I'm not sure.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

take logs of both sides.
log(x^y) = log(z)
y(log(x)) = log(z)
y = log(z)/log(x)
take logs of both sides.log(x^y) = log(z)y(log(x)) = log(z)y = log(z)/log(x)
