I need an application to allow me to drag horses and other selections into a watch list screen that aggregates selections, updates betfair prices regularly and allows backing of selections.
Does anyone use anything similar? -there is a watchlist without betting on firefox extras and sportinglot used to do a good one which is now** only
I also need a bot to automate bets on selections based on set rules
Thanks for any help

Havent looked at that for while, the amounts people are willing to pay for a bespoke solution seem very small to me

voice activated betting: £500 to 950
Automated betting on greyhound: 50 - 150

I did try the Developers forum before, but had no luck. Maybe I'll try again -thanks. Does noone else have a watch list?

how much are you willing to pay? If you cant pay @ least 1k i dont think you will get much interest from decent bespoke developers.

Has a "selection" for a watch list but not a drag approach.

if you are not willing to pay 5-10k then forget it and remember the programmer holds the rights to it.

Surely you can agree to get the rights in exchange for payment?

Absolute poppycock. Why anyone would bother posting such ill informed rubbish is a mystery.

Check out a site called rentacoder.

You will find some of the best developers on the globe on there. I have had several apps developed using the site, never having paid more than a couple of huindred. And of course you own all the rights to the software.

I use Bfexplorer PRO and it actually supports drag&drop of selection to the Watched Selections (Watch List) window.

If you place a bet on a selection then such selection is automatically added to the Watch List, and it is clear why. Because we mostly trade at betfair, we want to watch the price movements for selections we placed bets at, mainly when such trades are opened on many markets.

One guy was in Poland, he was brilliant, had been employed by a firm ft when I tried to get him again. The next guy was in Canada, used him twice. All correspondence goes through the site for audit purposes in case of disputes. You can check the credentials and ratings of each person who submits a quote when weighing up who to use etc.

from start to finish how long did it take? how much detail did they want up front about the project? Do they provide after care / support?

thanks for answering very interesting

You test the software as thoroughly as you want before agreeing it meets your requirement. You will probably get prototypes through the project to test and check all is ok. As for aftercare, this would not be included in the dev costs but you could always come to an agreement with the developer.

Muqbil,

Perhaps you could put me in touch with someone you have worked with. I've been wanting to move forward with automation for ages.

Start to finish, leading question.

One project done within one day - simple app for remoting between two apps.

Another; a couple of weeks of thrashing out and development, testing - betfair market scraper / saver / sorter - pre api.

With the api, development is very very easy for bet placement etc.

Most of the trading stuff is straight forward to program and cheap as per the free software on betfair, but if you want something good, different and works then it will cost you, unless there is a agreement in place the rights to you methods are the programmers and thats a fact

Anyone who enters into an agreement where a coder retains the rights to the software is quite frankly, three sheets to the wind!

when they live in poland the agreement is hard to enforce so that means you have no agreement

In reality the coder will retain the code and resell whenever he wants and fvck you if you can't take a joke :)

If you got 2 weeks work for £200 you are a hard man, Muqbil!

How easy it is to program the API depends on whether you know the languages the supplied code samples are in. But BF is not a stable site and has peculiar quirks.
I wrote all my own code and am still trying to improve exception handling 2 years later.

If you buy code from someone else, don't let it run unattended and stand ready to intervene as necessary. If you think it's easy check the API spec and see all the result codes and API errors you can get. You will get them!

There's jolly stuff like BET_TAKEN_OR_LAPSED. Which was it? You have to investigate to find out. How about UNKNOWN_ERROR and INTERNAL_ERROR?
BET_IN_PROGRESS is fun, too. Your bet may or may not have been placed. You work it out.

I'm not sure a BF newbie is your best bet to write this stuff for you, esp if he's off never to be seen again after a day or two.

These guys make their living using sites like rentacoder and build up a repuation for reliability. If they don't abide by the agreement they have lost their source of income. The guy wants a simple piece of software to track horses and submit bets, it will hardly make a potential thief the next Bill Gates!

The api is as simple or difficult as you want it to be. My code is rough and ropey as hell, I never check for the error codes mentioned, and cannot remember the last time I had a bet that was not submitted or matched. I learned on the back of the code originally done by rentacoder guys.

The estimate of 5 to 10k is plain crazy.

I suppose mine is a bit complicated, it places 500-1000 bets/hour from up to 80 bot instances which report to a monitor and have sonic alarms.

The API went very funny during those upgrades at the start of the year, I'm surprised if anyone got through that without grief.

If I wanted something written, I would try the BDP registered people first in hope of getting reasonable quality from an experienced person.

Chances are what you have asked to have designed, someone else has already asked to be designed.

Variations on what is needed is limited.

No one has the "golden egg" of programs.

If you know he's going to reuse it whenever he wants anyway, and you can get it a bit cheaper by letting him have the copyright, it's not so daft as it seems.
We coders believe all our code is ours, btw. None of us actually thinks the bosses are right to think it is theirs and engage in devious ploys to enforce their "intellectual property rights".

If you presented a problem to a solicitor and got his opinion, and someone else subsequently came to him with the same problem, would you expect him to refuse to help the new client because he had already sold his opinion on the matter to you?

Your software sounds a tad more complicated than mine, moonlight, tbf!!!

If cost is not an issue, one would imagine there are definite upsides to using bf registered developers.
