Qualifiers, disaster. Illiquid markets too. Just don't think its worth applying the same criteria financially in these as the main event, your good run was on tried and tested favorites in the real thing.

Just don't think its worth applying the same criteria financially in these as the main event, your good run was on tried and tested favorites in the real thing. first of all thanks for your well-meant input. but as I said before, as long as I am putting 600 on my selections, there will be no problem with market liquidity like this. the reason is, that my exit strategy is allowing this. cheers |

MROP.
You must mean "tried and tested players". All favourites in ATP qualifier today have won except Berrer |

MROP. You must mean "tried and tested players". All favourites in ATP qualifier today have won except Berrer Berrer had 2 or more match points. I had 3 possibilities to scratch the trade. I was quite convinced that Berrer will win. my mistake, if at all. |

The scoring system in tennis can make it brutal when that type of thing happens. Anyway, I would just see that as unlucky and move as you have.
Just need to be a little wary with qualifier draws. e.g. Sela. |
|
By:
You always need to be wary of Sela, has all the talent but somedays he has no way of using it.
|
|
By:
regarding Sela, you are right. looking right now for a scratch trade in Sela match.

unlucky with thise 2 monster losses ........... qualies are a disaster, ihave struggled in th epast and gave them up a long time ago
Now ive given up on tennis after indian wells and the performance of Djokovic especially i used to be well up on tennis, now i am i a small profit thanks to Murray, djokovic and ivanovic at the weekend. i find it too much hassle an very frustrating to see these players capitulate/non try prefer a 4/1 horse thats a non trier! im sticking to horses. |

horselover777 I noticed you have not asked for any advice etc. but I just wanted to know if you would appreciate feedback of that kind? shiraz I really appreciate any kind of feedback or critisism. but please understand you have to take into account, that you dont know my exit startegy. and as I mentioned in an earlier post,my selections are without in depth analysis. I am sure that people with much better knowlege, could do much better than me. I need patience and discipline to go on. you will need patience only to follow the thread and see where I will end :) cheers |

i did that and made 5 points profit a week the next day i lost 6 on the bounce ............ doing it blind doesnt work, its knowing which ones to choose ............. there is a way to do it fairly easily without pics or anything ; i got it down to a tee but i gave up after a while becasue i was bored andf timing differences made it tough to get on them all |

Just to let you know, I only ever look at odds and do not get involved with who's going to win, who's going to lose, every match just has a favourite and an underdog as far as I am concerned. Therefore I would never criticise anyone for selections on who they think will win a match. It looks like some of your "scratch trades" are made to minimise loss and as you have pointed out, it is an integral part of how you want to go about making a profit. With this in mind I just wanted to make a suggestion using today's Sela v Dancevic match as an example. Backed Sela @ 1.58, his price dropped quite a bit just prior to the start of the match, it was possible to lay at 1.46. That being the case you could have still been backing your favoured player with a win of 10% to nothing (i.e. 60 of your 600 start bet with no possible loss). This is not a unique situation, another example is Federer v Murray last week, backed at 1.79 and could have been layed at 1.66 prior to play. I know these examples were both losing favourites but whether they won or lost is not the point. I don't want to suggest arbing price movement prior to play as a strategy perse, rather to follow the price of the favourite and then consider what "value" that price represents. To put it another way, if you considered Sela to be a 1.58 favourite, is he still "value" at 1.46 without a ball being struck? |

horserlover777 laying the underdogs when 1 set up? hope this is a litttle help but u might already do tht have u ever tried** no I am not doing and that and never tried it. this would need a research in depth to know if it is worth a try. it sounds good. but one has to go with a startegy, that he feels good with. cheers |

To put it another way, if you considered Sela to be a 1.58 favourite, is he still "value" at 1.46 without a ball being struck? shiraz, some very good points made here. I had many trades like you mentioned, where the price dropped prematch. I never took the profit in such a case. I personally dont think that I can mix two startegies, because I would see your suggestion as an own strategy. to take, lets say 60$ win without risk is nice , but this would ruin my possible winnings in the long run, imho. my P&L numbers are not looking good right now, but this is no reason for me to change the startegy for now, as I dont see any improvement I could do right now. sure this could change with time and disussions like we are doin here. I must admit, it is difficult for you to discuss my strategy, as you dont know my exit strategy. thanks for your input, always appreciated :) |
