Been invited to talk to one about the possibility of getting on certain bets.

Would like to know a few things if the forum can help out:

1) Do they need a license? Someone mentioned on here before about it, and it was quite pricey IIRC.

2) How do they get on? Already been told they don't bother with the likes of slybet and 0.365p for example (which is fair enough). Are they using shop punters? I can't imagine the books tolerating them really since surely they only have three sorts of clients: 1) Pro punters 2) High rollers which the books would rather deal with themselves (although can understand that the high roller might prefer the extra anonymity that a commish agent might offer) 3) Punters who don't have time/can't be bothered with bestbetting/oddschecker etc.

3) Is it something that people have tried and have bad experiences of? (save betbrokers). Should I not even be considering it?

commission agents are no different to any other layer, if you win money consistently then you are bad business to them

they may hedge everything off and just be making a cut, but by winning money off someone further down the line you are impeding their ability to get bets on in future, eventually their avenues to get on will be shut down, leaving them in a hole when they want to service their losing clients

my hunch is that betbrokers didn't totally grasp this, and unknowingly let some pro punters run riot which meant they couldn't get any money on for anyone further down the line, which was a big part of their business grinding to a halt

if you do use one, don't let them think you win, and be very careful how much funds you hold with them, the financial exposure risk is many times greater than dealing with a licenced bookie

According to the Gambling Commission the licence fee for a Commission Agent is 13,400 p/a so I would imagine they are all unlicensed !!
