just as a postscript - do this for a living although far from being a big player , nowhere near koos league
however when attempting to trade a horse once i had laid it hit a flat spot and i found myself matched at 50s - it duly won - my biggest payday Managed to lose that within about 3 weeks by taking more risks / increasing stakes - acting out of character really A Warning to anyone who has a decent win - do something with it and dont go billy bigballs Good luck Koo |

u must have lost ur head to do the whole lot tho?

I didn't know about sub accounts. I thought that, maybe, you had made a new years resolution to quit betting and had closed your account at the end of 2007. Then, after a certain period of time (less than a day), you decided to open a new one.

Not really semisonic - i was in alot worse state back last summer.

u bought a house since i last saw u?

Nah - still at my old mans. Couldnt find anywhere that had a decent sized 2nd room for an office. I'm also fairly sure the market will fall so dont want to bnuy one now.
I've said once i win a few 100k again ( i hope ) then thats first priority |

By:
good luck mate....
hope you turn the corner for both of us |

gl koo
but can't help feeling you'd of been better quitting the game completely with your 200k win & playing the stock markets or similar .. which would cut out the endless recycling processes etc . what are you actually aiming for long term .. a million ?? |
|
By:
Mc Moonbeam - im aiming for this game to give me a good lifestyle and of course gotta aim at a million. I was well over hafway there at one point and i am seeing this as a tempory setback.
Horses being my life since i was 5 and was all i wanted to do from an early age. I now own one lovely old boy and if i canj win enough id love to buy stables and more horses. |
|
By:
You would never get to your targets without setbacks of this nature, imo. It would become far too easy and mundane.
|
|
By:
I admire your enthusiasm koo and wish you the best though i quit the horses years ago now
Wasn't meaning to sound negative at all i just wonder what a player that drops 200k's long term aims are that's all .. i hope you make that million ! I'm a winning soccer punter but since i've started to invest in other area's you realise just how hard it is to win decent amounts on here long term |

Like the poster youlittlebotty said above, there is something that doesn't ring true about this whole thread/story.
Firstly, I preface my statement with the fact that I am unfamiliar with the poster's past history on this or any other thread. But it appears to me that he somehow got kicked started into big league betting by accidentally getting matched for over 200 quid on a 1000 to 1 chance and unbelievably won. Then he has since managed to turn that into a zero or net loss situation. he ives at home with his dad, can't afford to buy his own property, and yet he is still claiming to be betting in the couple of thousand quid stakes. He appears to have some sort of cult staus amongst some of you. What am I missing here. If it's true then I can't wait for the movie. |
|
By:
No reason not to believe him .. koo's been a player on here for years & seems a good genuine guy
Like said he plays big anyway (which is half the reason he got matched in the first place) ! |
|
By:
If i said i started on here with 200 quid would the movie rights be more ;)
|
|
By:
koo-not being funny -but ffs get a grip- ifyou have burnt 200k - albeit having won it, how many times do you think you'llge tthat opportunity? twice ?three times? never again?
Good luck with it, but don't b erelying on a path to millions- isi it more likley to kick you in the arse longterm ? |
|
By:
One of the better threads on here, if some of you aren't part of the solution, your part of the problem !!
Koo comes across as honest, unlike the majority of losers/dreamers on here :-) |

Long term betfair should be a pathway to riches imo if and only if you have some specific skills or ability. And i believe i have that ability to read a race and then react in the right manner to get a profit.

aye- and however we both now analysis and aptitude will not be enough in itself. Good luck with the mental part : i have forgone that dream for 20 years. I can win, and win often but I cant keep it- yet- :p

btw - since im trying to limit myself to having max losing days to 10k ( please not yet for a while ) then im withdrawing the 3500 ive won today to the bank. This will be done whenever needed to make sure i cant drop too much and i also need to bank some for the times i'll need to deposit
moscow - keep trying. As we always gotta keep trying for one day we will find our way to the promised land |

I can relate to the big win scenario, albeit on a smaller scale. Three years ago put 20 on a 300-1 shot in a race and it won! Four weeks later, had lost my 6k winnings and a further 2k on top of that. Big money won fortuitously is not a good thing.
This thread is quite frightening, we're talking about 200k lost here, I fear for you a bit Koo as you're already mentioned not being able to play for smaller stakes, and in the back of your mind, you'll always be chasing that 200k. |
|
By:
Nice start koo.......

in 3 weeks time the first mini Moscow pops the head in to the world Koo- i have been told i have to wait :) !

d-in-d................ its hard playing for smaller stakes agin. t takes time to get used to it agin. Like today i laid a bet that would have lost 9k if it won in Ireland. However it finished last but i still was asking questions if it was the right thing to do. I'll get used to the stakes and i wont be chasing the 200k back as such. It'll be in the back on my mind but then its something you cant forget really.
Cheers Mick. It looked a bad day after 2 races and a 5k loss, also 2500 down still going into the 2nd at Dundalk. But played it well and played it IR only and didnt get tempted to go on a lumy chase bet. moscow - she'll let you have another crack onetime im sure, she wants you to make sure your priorititys are right first. But when you get that next go, take it. Deposit limits for the poorly displine gambler are key. Ive said it num, erous times on here. However the only way to [proved youve conquereed the displine is to try without. And laST TIME I THOUGHT I WAS CURED i wasnt :( |

the hardest scenario in gambling is dropping stakes...soul destroying.
|
|
By:
Koo, I admire your guts for trying, most people would be destroyed after losing that amount, but it's all relative I guess. If you know what was going right to make the money in the first place, and you know what was going wrong when you lost it, then no reason why you can't do it again.
Only you know how much you made operating your method (not including the 200+K 1000/1 shot) and if that out weighs your total losses including the 200+k then things are looking up. Good start today anyway, and a great thread to read! |
|
By:
I don't post a great deal but I have read these forums for years, and rarely has a thread caught my attention like this one has. I really don't want to come across as critical of you Koo cause you read like a really honest and nice guy. It would also only be honest to say I'm probably not qualified to pass judgement as I play with a bank which is tiny compared to yours, so I suppose I really can't understand all the factors. However, I feel your really missing something in your life.
You won 200k, and the way you won it is key. You were very fortunate, it was a win funded by someones error, not error of judgement but a simple mistake. Did you at any point stop to consider what that meant? You were seriously lucky, and even if you play for big stakes its a considerable amount of money, but you have totally failed to respect your good fortune in any way. I would say your losses are bad karma but the other guy probably deserved it as he was possibly trap betting. Your resilience is outstanding, but Koo if you are ever to be successful then you need to take a breath, look around, and find something to add a little "measure" to your gambling. There's an emptiness in you that is causing you to gamble like this, you achieved what most of us dream of and it turned out to be detrimental to you. I don't believe your gambling to win money, I think your gambling to succeed and feel like a success. Find something else in your life to give you that, then match your guts with logic, and I'm sure you will win much more than you actually need. The real shame is if you won it again you would probably just repeat the cycle. Two questions.......how much do you need to win to be happy enough to slow right down and what would you do if you made it? I bet you honestly can't answer either, and that's because you are addicted to gambling! The money may be gone........but the lesson is still yours.......... |
|

magpies.....well thought out, well articulated and well executed..... personally I think the guy is a tw*t........but that's just my 0.02p..
Is anyone sure these aren't "paper" bets? |
|
By:
Magpies
You're right , there's either something seriously wrong with this guy or something seriously wrong with the story. If the former, then he should make an appointment to see an pschoanalyst immediately. He's obviously got a huge gambling problem. If the story is basically correct, then I wonder also what his dad thins of it all. Apparently he is staying with him because he has nowhere else to go, and yet is simultaneously betting in the thousands of pounds per day league. What gets me also is the number of posters on here who seem to see nothing at all wrong or strange in this scenario, just saying that this is what gambling is all about- taking the bad with the good. What a lot of drivel that is. |
|
By:
He might be staying with his dad because they both get on well together not through necessity.
|
|
By:
Very good post magpies & is kind of what i was getting at earlier .. must be a deeper feeling of guilt to win 200k on a trap bet (or maybe that's just me) .. hence the huge losses since (and the reason i would've maybe considered quitting) ??

To the newbies / knockers on this thread who doubt Koo is genuine, the man is a walking encyclopaedia of horse racing knowledge. We need Koo to win, otherwise there's absolutely no chance for the rest of us !
|
|
By:
It's not knowledge alone that makes you a winner. It's what you do with it.
And it would seem friend Koo is pretty useless in that regard. Take away his fluke win and what do you have. Mounting losses. The guy's an exercise in what not to do in gambling. |
|
By:
Koo is for real...not paper bets. Met him once down the Canary exchange. Knew his stuff and like him share a real passion for the sport. Ok how he won the 200K was trading that got very lucky..we all get it sometimes but obviously not on this scale. Ok he has done the money. But he will be back...gl to you..

Magpies - there is a lot of truth in what u say. I probably am addicted to gambling. Well i think not even prbably. But dont you see i have rty and gamble for a living as i dont an office type 9-5 job where every mkinute at work im trying to place bets without the gaffer seeing me, or slying out the office to waqtch the festival. If i am addicted to it, then so beit. Just grateful im not addicted to drugs or stuff like that.
I've lived with dad since i was about 13 and since theres only 2 of us we get on great as we both support Man u and enjoy watching every sport. Its a fairly good size house and i take care of every bill here and slip the old man any money if he needs it. Id buy a house tomorrow but for me thinking the market might slow down and also the fact if i cant get Turf TV at home by the summer then i might hacve to seriously consider moving to base myself in an exchange shop. Therefore buying a house for me at the minute isnt really an option. My dad also loves his horses and sits oin sometime whilst im betting. You little botty & mr moonbeam ( think tats right ) the 200k win wasnt a fluke win imo, ive seen the situation i won the money several times and its the 3rd time ive been matched on them, only difference that i managed to get so much matched on this on and also that it won. These arent trap bets either. Its people too relient on commentators who i won off and these people usualy win in the end so no harm done, also There is no doubt i can get one again for whether for 200 quid is another matter, also should i add that since i started here with nothing to my name just nder 4 years ago. Even without the 200k win id still be doing ok. Well i hope i wouldnt have lost 200k withouit the win. Anyways - its about time i went to see my nanna as i have take some tablets down for her and get my paper for the days action as well. Good luck eveyone for today. |

Good wishes Koo ... I've been up and down myself, and yes like you I am probably into gambling more than is good for me , but hey I'm too old to change now,it is as it is. ... Heres to you mate

Koo, I think that its time to be honest with yourself. Your aims are all wrong: You say you are doing all this to obtain a "lifestyle". How much does this "lifestyle" cost? Obviously more than the 200k that you won, because you kept on gambling to bigger stakes. A more realistic target would be to earn a modest living through gambling, but you seem to want to by pass that. You think that you are above working 9 to 5, but most people who do, invest in a pension, a house or a savings plan. Only the minority of people in jobs blow the whole lot on drink, drugs or gambling.
What is this lifestyle that you are aiming for? A flat in Monte Carlo with a view of the Grand Prix, Flying around the world in a private jet to watch race meetings? A luxury car such as a Ferrari? A luxury babe in the passenger seat? A swimming pool in your garden, where you can entertain the rich and famous? (My guess is that you don't even have a driving licence.) If this is what you are aiming for, you have serious problems. You are trying to compensate for never having had a job. What you need is atleast 10 years of work experience to get things in perspective, to broaden your mind and give yourself time to think. Relying on gambling is just about OK for old guys, like me, who have worked in all sorts of jobs and had enough of them (and have savings which was mostly earned from hard work), but it is a dangerous thing for young people like you. Good luck anyway, Koo. |

Do think that you should have taken a complete break after winning your 200k for a month or so, n get it banked b4 gettin back on the betfair train. Tho am not too sure how i would react to winning 200k in one go, so easier said than done. Hopefully i will find out thois year.
magpies is completely right in my opinion, there is something missing, of the 500k or so i have won on here, ive bought a house, a business, etc. to improve my enjoyment of life, n would have thought u would have done the same by now. i dont doubt your talent at race reading, n remember you were pretty hot on your maths in skool, and am guessin u r still 300k in front or so on here lifetime so things cud b a lot worse. anyways, good luck today, keep things in perspective n its only money! |

the 200k win wasnt a fluke win imo, ive seen the situation i won the money several times and its the 3rd time ive been matched on them, only difference that i managed to get so much matched on this on and also that it won.
======================= Just curious Koo- had you previously layed the horse to lose ( the one where the 200K was won), then saw it was becoming a threat and needed to be backed to get out of a possible "expensive" lay? If so, then that is a bit of "luck" in that ....you had layed horse not to win...and it did! ( Of course this is rubbish IF you had not layed horse before race or during race first before the back) The fact you were skilful enough to see the danger of it winning and acted quickly enough was not just "luck", other than getting so much matched. However, I think it is fair to say that such large wins WILL be few and far between...you may not land one again...due to certain amount of "luck" and not skil in the horse winning and getting so much matched etc. You know you've been in this position before, where you were swinging from largish wins to largish losses..............and eventually you appeared to get yourself better managed. Upping the stakes was a natural thing to do once your bank had substantially increased...........so see nothing wrong with that. However, you probably just got carried away with winning such a large amount....and tried to repeat that type of bet more frequently ( seeing horses running well ...because you WANTED them to do so.....possibly judgement being wrong more often than before etc ).......BUT, as you now know, OVERSTAKING ,combined with the "chasing" large amounts to become a millionaire, had led to you losing most of the "lucky" win. At least you have accepted you were "out of control" and are trying to "get back to basics" ( as you must be pretty damned good at what you were doing before that big win). From the size of your losses early yesterday, I am not sure you are back "in control" of your STAKING. As you are aware of the danger of HEAVY going, then this factor ,combined with the early race at AYR being a CONDITIONAL JOCKEYS race, should have made you more wary of taking high risks with your bank. It appears that half your 10,000 bank was gone after two races.....very high % of bank lost for TWO events. So it appears to me that you need to once again address the question of - 1. Do I continue taking these high % risks with bank , leading to large swings between losses and wins......relying on "judgement" IR ? or 2. Do I control my staking so that I cannot lose such high % of bank when I hit a bad judgement period. ( This means I will also not win so much...............but the losses should be less when hit by poor judgement.) Certainly cannot see you stopping betting.......for someone who must have some "talent" at IR betting, as you have been making a living for a while on here, that would be "stupid" IMO......though , as you know, you MUST control OVERSTAKING in races, otherwise you know there will only be one ending to "story" . Hopefully you make the million ( trust you are keeping a diary) to complete a target in your life re gambling. Once made though BEWARE THE URGES TO REVERT TO OVERSTAKING ETC....otherwise that million will disappear like snow of a dyke ( apologies to any lesbians out there ]:) Perhaps you can then move on to other challenges ..............WITHOUT TAKING HIGH RISKS....as would be pretty stupid if you started to "waste" large chunks of your hard earned doe by buying too many horses etc.....hope you become more protective of the million than taking too many chances with your capital. Take time out and write a book....obviously will be a comedy with ROBBIE COLTRANE as the main character..should be a CRACKER of a read:D :D :D Gl with bets today. |

Koo, firstly please please stop with "I may be addicted to gambling", we both know you are. Secondly, the "I'm just glad I'm not addicted to drugs etc" statement says so much about you; take a pride in yourself man.
You could be hugely successful, you could be in top 5% I believe, but instead if you take the big win out you would be way below that mark. What is intensely annoying to me is that you are wasting what you have worked so hard to obtain.........your knowledge. By making a few changes, and I do mean changes to your life and not just your gambling, you could be at the top of the tree. Unfortunately one of those changes involves discipline, and I know your trying to do that but I'm afraid your missing the point. Answer the following questions please, and you don't have to do that on here, but I think if you could come up with some honest answers you may well have a starting point on the road to recovery.... 1, Why do you gamble? 2a, Do you honestly have a clearly defined target? 2b, If so, what is it? 2c, What are you willing to sacrifice in order to achieve it? 3, If gambling was banned tomorrow what would you do? Nothing feels better than sustainable and deserved success mate, that's cause it's one of the most difficult things in life to achieve. |
