Nasri, have just integrated this into my calculations for the day starting this year. For me, targetting 3-4% based on bets divided (i.e. 2 bets, target 1.5% per. 4 bets, 1.25%). Trading is not included in that. Using trading to fund bets. So more time spent researching bets rather than trading.

Some days, with trading, have ended up with 4-9%. Other days, where the punting didn't click, a 2% gain since trading covered.

Some might consider it "over thinking" but finding that it is making things interesting for me since some of my bets are mechanical (i.e. greyhounds is based on filters and flags) while enjoying football and hockey research.

Will it work? Ask me around April or May how it is going.

Nearly impossible to make 2.5 % per day i'd say .

i reckon 6months could be possible, i mean surely some1 can do it

Glasgow, I think making 2.5% on any ONE type of betting/trading is difficult.

But if you are able to divide it over different events/types of betting, it can work.

Again, ask me in April/May how it's going.....

I just looked at this week so far:
MONDAY (in order of play)
Percentage based on the bank at the start of the day / all in order

DOGS (1.5 hrs): +16%
HORSERACING (trading 1 hr): +4%
FOOTBALL (two bets): -8%
NET ON THE DAY: +12%

Dogs: came down to trading and three lays all coming in plus trades all were easy and in my favour. Monday liquidity sometimes easier to deal with if there was a busy weekend of football and horses.

Horse racing: the gains were there but felt I wasn't focused (Monday) so walked away green rather than give it back.

That night, two straight bets and chilled out rather than trade in-running. After a good day, I pushed the bets a bit but both lost to draws (Newcastle, Le Havre). If you have had a good day and can just put down bets rather than burning your brain for 2 hours in front of evening footie or horses, take the time away. There is always another opportunity to trade but the time away will pay dividends in the long run.

TUESDAY:
Overnight:
NHL: -3.5%
TENNIS: -5% (three bets)

DOGS (trading/laying): -7%
HORSES (trading 2.5 hrs): +21%
FOOTBALL: +2.75%
NET PROFIT: Roughly 8% gain overall on the day.

NHL is a staple of mine coupled with a passion for the sport. It has its ups and downs but enjoy the challenge.

Tennis, I am taking on in 2010, both researching and trading. Any time I trade, I am green, rarely getting caught out. Choosing winners I am finding challenging but slowly understanding why the bookies must love the sport ;)

Dogs: caught out twice in a row with trades where I redded out. Gains before had been small so walked away giving back part of the week so far rather than all of it. Switched to researching horses which paid off

Horses: An example of not stopping when you are in the headspace as well as extra research pays. All my lays and trades were working for me. Knew when to ramp up and down. Cruise control for two hours.

Football, African Nations. Bookies have been loving this so value if you look long rather than the odds on "projections". One losing bet so far. All based on the first half rather than the matches.
-------
Just a two day example but sticking to a 2.5 to 3% risk keeps things manageable. Trading has its ups and downs but comes down to headspace. I will walk away with a loss knowing this is not the norm.

As mentioned, adding tennis to my arsenal and as hockey fades in May, will bring baseball back in. So only sport added for 2010 is tennis.

Also, if the overnight bets come in, will skip dogs and just enjoy doing research over lunch. The more research you put in, the better the return.

If I can't make 2.5% a day I'll go back working......and I don't think that's likely.

Problem is with these kind of projections is that you can easily make 5% a day with a £50 bank but you can't use the same strategy with a £400k bank cos it won't work. If you can make 5% with a £50 bank try it with £500, then £5000 - find the level at which you can operate and stick with it.

100% agree with catflappo.

The main thing I find is a larger bank gives you more options when trading an event or several aspects of an event.
