anyone playing this game for a living would have a contingency plan for any site failure , so many other options these days and even the need to accept a minimal over round on the very few occasions it happens makes site failure an almost non existent setback tbh , unprofessional and poor business practice not to make any provisions and failure to do so means that person is not taking the game too serious.

I can understand there being problems with the site, especially when a series of upgrades are taking place. What I cannot understand, or accept as a customer, is a failure of Betfair to protect its users when these problems are occuring. Last night this exchange was a mess and frequently breaking down: Betfair should have splashed the site and only gone live again when the site was fixed and stable and safe for its users. I lost money last night due solely to Betfair's failings; I very much doubt they will fail to collect their premium charge payment from me over the upcoming weeks.

It is a lesson I learned a few years ago. It happens and they don't reimburse, so you just have to accept it as part of the overall risk and keep other options open.

Fully agree Alex, and learnt the same lesson myself a long time ago, however it is difficult to exercise your contingency plans when you simply don't know if your bet on here has entered the system. The exchange last night was a shambles.

While I share your frustration, trust me I do, the failings are yours if you don't bet according to how rubbish the stability is here.
With the options available these days, it should be almost impossible to lose money SOLELY due to Betfair's failings.

Lori , can you please explain what one should do to minimize damage when one does not know what bets has been matched and therefore not knowing positions on the different runners ?

Well presumably you're betting with an edge in the first place, so you have to bet within your bankroll. I know that I could have expanded a lot quicker if I'd gone beyond my bankroll means over the years with the thoughts that I could lay off (trade?) if things go against me, but I'm not willing to take the chance... it's not like betfair instability is a new or surprising thing (though it's got worse in the last 18 months of course).
If stability were higher, you could risk a higher portion of your bankroll, but in anyone's staking/modelling, the chances of extended downtime should already be factored in.
Again, I'm more than sympathetic to the cause as I'd love to bet bigger percentages of my roll myself on smaller price movements, but it just isn't possible, and never really has been, without risks I'm not willing to take.

Surely if you don't know your positions on the runners, you just wait until you know. Pressing buttons at random at that point isn't going to improve the situation.

Agree up to a point Lori, but surely it is Betfair's responsibility to monitor exchange functionality and act accordingly (i.e. splash the site,**the problems etc.) The end user has every right to expect that the product is functioning as it should be: the onus is not on me to ensure the site is safe for me to use, just as I don't expect Betfair to help me with my trading strategy. If a plumber knowingly installed a dodgy boiler and the unwitting householder died when it blew up, who would be culpable?

there are a few other technical risks involved as well, what if you isp went down? or pc hard disk failure.
Betfair going tits up is annoying but if your really hurt by it you need to adjust, reducing stakes is probably best (only?).

I have**, but am pretty much banned/limited by every inplay betting site going.
So what do I do?

despite what I assume was an abusive remark the very best of luck.
