I've been in communication with Betfair Customer Services about market info. My understanding was that the "amount traded" figure was double the backers' stakes, but I'd noticed that two of my backs were showing as exactly the figure I'd had matched (they were in early markets with very little actvity so I could see what were my bets). After numerous emails with CS answering questions I hadn't asked (why do CS Depts do that?!!), they did eventually say that it was just the backers stakes that were shown. Should I believe them? Has the system changed or did I misunderstand it in the first place?

Chris, thanks for this. Davies says that it is backers' stakes doubled, and I suppose he should know, given his position in Betfair. So my reply from CS was wrong. But I wonder why the two bets I could identify (only tiny amounts were matched before the price moved)were showing as just my stake. Odd.

It would've been because your bet was cross matched on another selection, for example if you backed £100 at 1.01 when only £50 was availble then that would show as £100 matched, the other £50 could be matched if someone else was trying to back another selection at odds of 100, your other £50 would match them by laying 50p at 100.0 and that would show as £1 matched on that selection at odds of 100

B & E, I'm having trouble following that! Let me tell you a precise situation and perhaps you can explain it to me. I was backing the draw 4 days before k.o. in a football match. 3.4 was available to back, but I asked to back £100 at 3.45 so it showed up on the lay side. I was first in the queue and after a few hours £2.18 was matched. This showed as £2 in the market info tab and stayed that way until k.o. because the odds fell and nothing more was matched at 3.45. I was expecting it to show £4 ie double the backer's stake. Any illumination you can offer will be gratefully received!

So in your case your bet would've been matched by £1 trading at your 3.45 price and the other £1 laying the home and away team

cross matching kicks in when the market goes overbroke, probably what happened in your case is someone came along and backed the home or away team which caused the back book percentage to go above 100%, so betfair will cross match selections in this situation and as your 3.45 draw was best price it would've caused your bet to be matched or partially in this situation as they were betting in a small size
