As owner of a small independent and talking to my Fobt punters
almost every one believes that they are rigged in some way, ranging from they have a fixed payout like a fruit machine to the big firms monitoring every machine and feeding it the numbers they want.
When I try to explain that paying 35/1 on a 36/1 shot on every spin is the bookies edge. I get the incredulous looks and derision that only the very naive could ever believe such a prosaic truth.

the funny thing is that the mugs that claim they are fixed are the same mugs wh play these machines WEEK IN WEEK OUT.

amazes me the amount of unwashed cretins that thinks the world owes them a living and should lay them on dirty each way races as much as they want.

They make a bomb, I hate the buggers in my job, but love it when moaning**s play and lose on them.
Had a very successful shop in London that made 5% gross profit on them. Rarely ever had a losing day. Never a losing week.
Its hardly suprising that they have grown in popularity with the Racing Post promoting them with editorial content.
There is a cost to the players of FOBTs that goes beyond money.
Grandad used to own a few around town, made a fortune.
The machine is controlled by a random number selecter. Ask the manager to tell you what the % pay out is. He will NOT tell you.
I asked a director of Hillbillys what the % was and he replied ;- "I honestly don't know"
Why is this % not shown on the machines.
FOBTs shold be either banned or taxed out of existance.
