It`s a Fieldfare from Scandanavia, there are about 20 Outside, stripping a red berry tree, they also love Apples.
They look like a cross between a Thrush and a Female Blackbird. |

Cheers sid.
I saw some of these yesterday and been driving me nuts wondering what they were. |

You'll probably see Redwings as well . Thrush like with distinctive red flash on the body by the wing edge, and pale stripe over the eye.

My Canadian tech llives north of Toronto in the middle of a nature reserve, away from civilization. A brightly coloured red and yellow bird landed in his backyard.
He took a picture and sent it to a friend of his who is into bird watching. Minutes later the person calls saying "I'm on my way to your place. Will be there in six hours" and arrives through snow with $20,000 worth of camera equipment, complete with remote cameras put into trees. Sure enough, the bird obliges for several photos as Geoff's friend lay hidden in bushes, Geoff talked into handing the remote controls. Sat for two hours smoking a joint watching his friend crawl around in the snow like an SAS sniper. A day later, photos are sent to some news group. Geoff is now on week two of waking each morning to 100 or so strangers with cameras in his front yard :) Asked if he had pulled yet, he said no. Served tea one day to everyone standing in the freezing rain. Next day, the people that showed up said "we heard you have tea" so has now left a kettle and bags on an extension by his drive. Slowly getting fed up after Saturday's crowd of 200. My suggestion, which he liked, is to dye some feathers red and yellow and leave them scattered in the front with a notice on the fence saying that unfortunately a hawk got the bird overnight. :) |

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, write a book please Shapey. I'm sure most people have as many anecdotes about life as you do, but you tell them really well.
Like the suggestion :) |

i've got one of these too, don't think it's red breasted though. does that make just a plain ol' thrush? Haven't seen it here before in winter. loving the red berry tree outside.

I've had the same thing this week, the garden has been inundated with Fieldfares and Redwings, never seen them before, they've stripped all the bushes of berries, the one Mistle Thrush is holding its own though.

From my friend around thirty minutes ago:
Have woken this morning to find someone wearing green and black camouflage jacket (considering we are waist deep in snow here) standing at the end of the drive way. Normally would call the police but suspect he is here for the bird. Yesterday, a rental van with eight passengers showed up mid afternoon. It turns out I am now part of a speed alert system where people receive text and twitter. They have 28,000 members on text alert in Ontario alone. Bird is cooperating and popping out to the crumbs on cue so people get their photos quick and disappear. More reports as they come in. |

''what kinds of things can i feed em apart from bread?''
Chopped up fruit, apples, pears , mixture of seeds, best also to throw it on the ground. All the best. |
