To be honest it will be difficult to get a router good enough to get a good signal 80m away. You may have to think abotu gettign a seperate line installed in the office or perhaps finding a way to run a cable to it from the house

On your router you can change your channel, from 1 to 13. This is because some channels can experience interfence and therefore some will perform better. If yours is currently on a low number, increase this to 10 or more, reboot router and see if connection speed improved.

No, will be a setting on router (thought all wireless routers allowed channel to be changed) What is make/model and I'l see if there is updated firmware.

Had the same problem. My kitchen. Garden and sitting room picked up three neighbours. Kitchen around 8. Changed my channel as well as moved the router into the hall more toward the kitchen (the area with interference).
By the way, put the router on the wall near the ceiling. This was a real plus rather than around the corner in a room.

Richard LL 13 Jan 10:26 best course of action would be to apologise to the wife and see if she'll let you move back into the house rather than living in the outbuildings IMO
Haha :)

Buy a long ethernet cable they're dirt cheap on ebay probably about £10 for 50 metres. I bought a 30m one for £5 to stick a fixed connection upstairs was far too long half of it is curled up under the floorboards :)

you could place the router in a large metal tin or use aluminuim foil and point this towards your shed .or get a better ariel for the router ,but if you place your router in a large biscuit tin and point towards your shed this will do the job ,i use both router and card in tins ,the card is not on the laptop its on a usb cable and the resulting signal strength is night and day ,but sounds like you really nead to go and get some cable and hard wire the shed . imo
