you ned to know why it will trade shorter i.e
trainerform
front runner
ground
distance etc etc etc
its no good just doing them all --
Report ibrox December 29, 2009 6:27 PM GMT
you may be right bri,but just because the trainer had 2 winners yesterday he may have none today.
just because the horse has never ran 2 mile dosent mean he cant.
he may be a front runner but they are not letting him today.
so many permutations what to do mmmmmmmmm
Report Glasgow Brian December 29, 2009 6:28 PM GMT
lone front runners ???
Report kef4o December 29, 2009 6:36 PM GMT
Why lay favourites though? If you back a favourite to lay it shorter i/r you would win less than if you backed long odds that is a front runner. One thing that you have to keep in mind though(imo) is that if a horse tends to be a frontrunner then the market might not drop its odds because him running in front at the start of the race may be already incomporated into the price.

If anything, you should look at doing the exact opposite. Lay favourites that stay in the rear of the pack in the beginning and tend to join the front very late. Be advised though that if this is typical for the favourite the market might also not reflect its latter position in the beginning.

P.S.: Brian, why did you call me a pr!ck earlier today?

Brian

thats you..not everyone has the same sense of humour

don't you think it would be better to drop the name calling and just share information/discussions on betting styles/methods ?

good idea scotbet,so to get back to my ?
Report kef4o December 29, 2009 7:06 PM GMT
I think that concentrating on the favourite is a fundamental mistake when it comes to understanding the mathematics of the game(you'd have to risk more in order to get the same return compared to if you were successful with longer shots).

That said, you are looking for strong travellers. So, two options: 1. Watch the races of the favourite. 2. Read the comments about its last runs.

It should be a ton of work, because after all, you should also double check whether the horse is a worthy favourite.

I'd advise you to at least broaden up to the top 3 of the market, and then look for the best traveller of them. As I said though, being a good traveller might be already incorporated into the price.

Zubova is a horse of your interest. A favourite many times. She hasn't won yet but barring her fist two starts, she has been traded shorter during the race 5 times so far, though she is still winless.
Report Glasgow Brian December 29, 2009 8:28 PM GMT
like it tame - so you ahead now ?
Report Beat The OverRound December 30, 2009 3:07 AM GMT
What about heavily supported favourites i.e. odds on, and the second favourite is at reasonably bigger odds, back the favourite in running above SP.
Seen quite a few of these spike high in running at some point before going on to win.

BTO - do you have any figures for this suggestion ?

basically ibrox youre just asking someone to do everything for you. kef has given you the pointers, but it involves actually studying yourself. you would trust anothers interpretation of events over your own?

Bacontrout is right. This sort of approach is down to selection method and nobody is gonna reveal their edge.

brian, before betfair my only bet would b penalty carrrier in handicaps priced 7/2 0r less basically fav or 2nd fav, been on here about 6 yrs(diffrent user name)have decided this yr to cut back on laying and go back to backing.
I find bank management easy being a backer instead of laying, small % of bank risked compounding and withdraw most months, losing bets are not painfull red numbers not so big, less stress, everybody happy(have not kicked the cat for some time)
how you getting on with the six block staking?
