much, much more, assuming that companies actually fulfill their obligations re: redundancy pay.
That's based on my experience as a punter throughout Thatcher's (pause for a spit into the gutter) 'economic miracle' with 4+ million unemployed.
The only problem I can see is that companies may be so skint this time around that they actually start defaulting on their redundancy obligations, in which case, big problem.

I think we are seeing the reality of Brown's (pauses to vomit violently) economic miracle now, massive borrowings by state and individuals, massive overspending on the public sector, largely on non-jobs rather than services, and a policy of tax and spend that has never worked before and is going to blow up in their face once again as companies and individuals go the wall
cheers Gordon, wouldn't trust you with the job of running the proverbial whelk stall matey...

yep, think it's more or less the 'Risk Aversion' theory:
if you've got lots you won't risk any of it by gambling 'cos you don't want to lose it
if you've got next to nowt, things couldn't get worse, so you might as well risk what you have on the remote possibilty of getting lots
how many rich people do you see queuing up for lottery tickets ?

I tend to agree with what has been said, does anyone think this will lead to more problem gamblers or will punters just chance their arm and retreat with a bloody nose? There's worrying times ahead for a lot of people and betting can be a form of escapism, as has been said if people get redundancy packages they may come on here hoping to find the golden goose without having any idea whatsoever how to go about it. There's a fair few who think if they've got a big bank to play with the sky's the limit!
