New Year, New archievements hopefully.

I still believe 'it' can be cracked. I have built up bankrolls of thousands from tiny deposits of around £50 before (familiar to many on here ) then in moments of madness, completely burn out my bank, either through drunken stupidity or chasing losses when I didnt even need to worry.

In an old account I had over 5 years ago I made around 10k on separate occasions on Betfair Sports and and also exchange games all from a banks of £200 and only on 5 attempts. After losing it all back I vowed never to go back to it. I remember around 3-4 years ago around this time having made around 5k in a month gambling madly on hunches that I thought the odds were not quite up to scratch on the bookies parts and made huge profits so fast.

Then the downfall!!!! I remember losing about £8500 in around 25 mins, absolutely suicidal the next day, all because I was drunk on exchange games. I left it, went back to work for around 2years which was good, but always eating away at me was ... I know I can beat it.

After 2years off and enjoying all the fruits of labour, I was itching to get back to Betfair and I took the plunge again. I always believe that when times are hard and you have taken time off like I have, You try much harder and are more alert to make it pay. I explained to the G/F that I wanted her to be part of my new gambling ambition! In running at the courses proved to be easier than I expected, we were at meetings no further North of Notts as we are based on the South Coast, and weekly expenses would make too much of a dent in profits if we travelled further. I had a few rules, in which I broke and the G/F took the blame, even though I wouldnt have listened if told I was wrong.

1) Every bet we won, the bank increased, I would tell her to use the lot on the next bet, absolute recipe for disaster. How stupid, obvious I would get wiped out sooner or later. I remember we got to Cheltenham 5hrs early, and had to wait forever till the racing started. Plenty of time to study colours numbers horses jockeys etc etc. After Three races we are £780 up. All good, and not bothered if the last 4 are 'no bets'. I see the favourite in the next race the favourite striding up making a nice dent and I just know it'l win. The lady is given the green light to bung our wedge on for some nice bunce. I knew we were in trouble when the favourite started slowing up and the jockey was flapping his arms around like its all he could give.It killed me to think I was done. Im pretty sure the race was Cheltenham around June time 08. The horse was something dawn. If any hardcore followers can spot it they would see my misfortunes!. anyway once bitten and all that!.... The lady totally convined he threw it too, but cant risk that sort of money again, I had to throw in the towel.

2) I was specialising in Jump meetings rather than flat or all weather. Soooooo, There Im stood at Kempton Park on a near deserted all weather track last year in ice cold weather , breaking all my rules, just in case I spot the winner quick. I believe if you study jump meetings 'in running' for a few weeks, the all weather will seem so alien you couldnt even tell who the fav was 1f out. Brain will not work fast enough, its one or the other or none at all and I am extremely sharp, and know as soon as a horse is going to win. I was so rarely wrong at the course, but I have the bankroll managment skills of an ape. I could usually spot a winner or loser when the market stood at 1.6 once a week and considered it a big pay off, wiping out most of the market, leaving nothing to mop up and we would stand £600 just off that race, making simple £50,s -£100,s off the others. If I went to a course and made nothing I could sometimes leave it, others not, which is when I became stupid, and risk everything. If I was to ever make it work, which I still believe is possible is to start at the bottom again. I believe in the race course and I'm a realist, I know that somedays you win big, others you dont make a penny. The lifestyle, expensive hotels, private rooms on the course etc etc doesnt work, believe me, ive been up and down the country, and after expenses it CANNOT pay no matter what your trading abilities are.

It really does amuse me, when I see punters with broadband connectoins at courses and rooms etc, the margins are so slim you cant make a profit after expenses unless you are extremely lucky. Worcester racecourse is the greatest of all for in running bets, il never disclose why, but used to make £400 there each day the races were there.

Prior to this I have read a book by Dave Nevison, explaining his unique approach to gambling on horses he sees as unfit for their prices, I agree to certain extent... I can even see it tonight after watching greyhound prices come double on Betfar from the High Street Bookie. Its having the balls to go along with it I guess, which I definatley have and also waiting for so long without a winner and a dog that is above its price. I saw one earlier shoot out to 21 on here and ladbrokes were offering 6-1. Absolute crazy.

I wonder if it is all about brains and not about good judgement. Obviously both would be handy but it does get my brain ticking. It also really p!sses me off when I see people stick their posts up claiming to earn or !!!!!(win) !!!!! 100k a year, whether they would pay tax on it.... oh please, just slip away under the carpet. Im sure this technique is to to make you feel an inch bigger!. If it was me earning 100k a year I'd gladly chop an inch off mine to add to your little wotsit!!!! :o)

On to Twenty Ten! Surely this time itl work! Perhaps I need some orrible nasty punter to tell me off every time I make a boo boo. Maybe I shall always be on the losing side. I know from my attempts at punting either online, or in the ring, you really have to be on top, and I mean on TOP especially 'in running' or you have no chance. I would absolutely love to try the 'in running' thing again as I totally 100% believe its a nice easy profit each week, ( only if your not greedy) and can handle travelling 375miles round trip, sleep in places less glamorous than the Ritz, and be out of profit. To be honest its human nature, chasing a loss. What would you do if you caught you wife giving mouth action to some @rse down the local in his car!!!.... of course just walk off and think nothing more!!!!!!!!. You would want to kill the b@stard asap and get him back for everything he caused. In the same opinion, gambling is the same, You just travellend all the way to Cheltenham from Brighton for a days racing. Oh dear.... the jockey doesnt feel like it today, you're around £1800 down because of this. Limp home and forget or....what 99.9999999999999% do in this situation and chase. I think I need a kick in the nutbag first and learn my lesson 100 times over!!!!, or maybe 99.9999999999999%.

It can work, It will work, with the correct timing, the correct team etc. I know 100% I am good enough to call a winner or loser in mid race, Ive done it countless times and need discipline. Which after time off and some hard labour have realised if I involve others it could be a good thing!

There is so much dosh out there to made, I absolutely believe that the 'experts' so so so so so so slip up on occasions every single day on sporting events across the globe, and I want to be there to expliot them. I even thought about ( Earlier in the month) trying to get a point system together to gather up excellent punters together as a closed unit to bet on certain markets using a points system in favour a vote poll. Whichever the poll vote went with prior to the event is what we went with. I often thought that how can the people that decide the odds be correct on the odds they set???? Its like the professor Steven Hawking says , ' A future event can never be pre determined' .

Im sorry to all the sufferers reading this and thinking what an @ss i am, my fiance has gone to Norfolk to visit family before chrimbo and you are all on my brainnnnnnn mannnnnn!!!!! Even If I find just one interesting person with an excellent strategy to Betfair then Im happy. I think Im ready to start again, the bankroll states £0. 23/12/10? Even if it was £20, after expenses, it would be profit in my eyes.. Good luck in 2010 my fellow puntmasters, bring the glory home.

P.s Im not a Thug, I'm a nice guy with an understanding fiance, that needs to ' crack it'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (AND I WILL, WITH OR WITHOUT YOUR HELP!)

The Thuggers ' discipline Bible' will be available in stores with the cure from 2011 once Ive cracked it!!!!!!! (joke)

My new strategy for you is maybe try another sport, where you dont need to travel, with no expenses.

But most importantly try to increase your bank by 1% or 2% a day on average, this flies in the face of your attitude now, where you seem to need the thrills/rush of adrenaline?

So obviously your bank £100 you win £1, bank £100 you win £1.01 (these are averages),

if what you do is successful your bank £100,000 you win £1000 per day.

My experience tells me thrill seekers like yourself rarely listen to me happy xmas.

Why not just concentrate on this track then? Hell, I'd move there if I were you. Cheltenham just down the road, too.

To me it sounds like you're not being completely honest with yourself. You say you blow all the winnings on chasing, but I wonder if your overall strategy/skill is not quite as good as you think it is, and that when the inevitable crash arrives you blame "chasing"?

On another note, keeping expenses down should be paramount to everyone in business and life. All those little extras soon add up. Instead of a £50 meal stick to McDonald's @ £5. That extra money could be used to increase your overall wealth. It's the classic mistake of thinking that all millionaires live the high life, spending money like water. In fact, most millionaires are Scrooges - that's why they're millionaires (read "The Millionaire Next Door" book).

Merry XMas.

PS. If the horses don't work out, please consider the football markets - the most honest sport to bet on (top level only).

I enjoyed reading your story, many things you have stated make sense and apply to myself, losing control when you have built a reasonable amount up,then doing it all in like a nutcase sounds exactly like me,something someone who his nearly 50 should have mastered by now.
I think your pesrsonal skill/edge should be something you stick with, but to move forward in 2010 try monitoring and keeping records of your bets on the computer and build graphs etc, this I think will bring discipline and help you move forward and hopefully bring bank growth if your system is of any value, this is something I am planning to do for the new year.
Best of luck for the future,Merry Xmas (Keep Believing).

Very interesting read THUGGERS,nothing surprised me in your overall account.. You did I think touch on what I beleive is the key' Little and Often'

I should imagine the track players do have 1 disadvantage, that they cannot see the race unfold as well as you can on TV,esp if you are a good race reader.

Many times I have spotted the likely winner with a circuit to go (fast pic/track players, prob not even noticed it yet) ie.1n at 20's free bet at 12, profit at around 6/7's .

Interesting read, it sounds like your judgment is very astute. Your judgment is devalued with your lack of discipline and patience. Changing your behaviours is very difficult , if nye impossible thing to change ( you are who you are).

Bank roll managment is probably THE most important factor to becoming a succesful punter.

Structured staking plans and reviewing your records to understand what is your most profitable betting stratedgy is a neccesity. do you have the discipline and patience to become a proftiable punter? I wish you the very best fortune in your endevours in 2010.

Any system, however much of an edge it has, is only as good as its risk management. That's an absolute rule. The only way to come out on top with any system that doesn't employ proper stake discipline is to get out before it blows up.

Until and unless you figure out why you chase/overbet and find a way to stop doing it, you are guaranteed to repeat the same patterns you describe. How good your picks are is irrelevant to that fact.
