Problems with multiple excel files not opening 'file format or extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted' etc'

Can anyone recommend any freeware, reasonably priced downloads, or alternative way to recover the data??

Cheers!

There's a lot of software advertised but i'm not seeing many user reviews so if someone's recovered data i'll be pleased to get a recommendation

Might be worth making a copy and trying to open in it open office (the sun/ajava thing)

that was a good option but it seems not to have worked and not opening the problem files

oh well, anyone recovered files with decent downloaded software?
