good question!

I emailed this question and got the following reply:
The amount displayed in the Traded column will always show twice the amount of the backers stakes for that selection. In other words the amount matched on each selection. For example if S20,000 is being shown as traded on Manchester United in a Match Odds market it means that backers have had S10,000 matched on this selection. This figure could come from two betfair clients but with a figure of this amount will most likely come from multiple players. Er yes, but that's not what I asked! |

It's the amount matched at a single price before it moves again.

I got another reply to my follow-up email which was equally useless. Nobody at Betfair helpdesk seems to be able to read the question - they just trot out their standard FAQ about the graph, it seems.

It's why you never get a horizontal line on the graph.

I think its each single bet, unless pumpkinslayer is sure, as I have often had 50k taken in two chunks and can see both spikes on the graph

I think it must be amount matched at a price, not individual bets. There aren't nearly enough volume bars to represent each individual bet surely.

Actually, I've just thought about it again, and I think I'm wrong. Is it not perhaps volume over a given time period, such as 1 or 2 mins, which could encompass 0, 1, or, indeed, many individual bets, which are all combined together to give the volume for that time "unit".

BUmping this to ask a daft question.
Am I right in saying if £100k has been matched on an event, and £90k of that is on Man United, that means the sum total of monies that have backed Man U is £45k (the other £45k being the lay money)? |
