most satisfying was a john carew hattrick last season. meaningless penalty at the end of the game, made me about 700 quid. he doesn't even take penalties normally.
oh, and the camp aussie diver putting in perfect dive right at the end of the olympic diving. 500 quid win I'd written off.

I've won and lost thousands before, but the most satisfying was far smaller.
The local bookies were doing a charity 'guess the minute of the first goal' type jobby for the FA Cup final a back in 2005. 30-odd people had already signed up but no-one had looked at the bottom and seen the 'no goal in 90 mins' box, so I took it.
By the end of the week the entire chart was filled and I looked forward to a game in which I'd got 60-1 about a 9-2 shot, and it came off - Arsenal 0v0 Man Utd!
I only won £60, but boy was it satisfying.
(One third of the stakes went to charity, which is why it was £60, not £90).

Hmm, it probably isn't but the one that gave me the most pleasure was the Czech Republic for Euro 2004. In fact, I was so excited by Greece knocking out France (the winner being the Czech's opponents in the next round) that I ran past the Bank of England screaming and shouting until the police caught me and told me to shut up.
That Czech team was one of the best I've ever seen, a most remarkable team and certainly the most under-appreciated team there's been. Their game with Holland was legendary. Then those spicky Greeks drew 0-0 and scored a goal in the 105th minute.
I don't remember if I laid off but I identified the best team in world football at that time (think they were 25-1 but could be wrong) and nothing will make me change my mind. They were superb.
