Seems to be a key sport for dubious betting practices according to those that reguarly make money out of it and have concerns about the way it's managed on this site...

should it be banned or at least a higher profile notice of it being open to dubious practice ?

Higher profile notices I agree with. In particular there should be one pointing out that they may be betting against people who have studied form because betfair reckon there are more who don't realise that than there are ir punters that don't recognise the degree of delays or don't understand the market maker advantage.

I'm only too happy to play against people who know I may study form.

A true story. Honestly.

If customers are winning money purely by betting on events after they know the outcome (by the use of fast pics/courtsiding), then surely that is wrong?

Personally I'm staggered that it's allowed to happen (if that is what's happening. Apologies if not).

I certainly agree with the last bit betfairy..

Feck is currently painting any succesful in running punter as a ** however but conveniently suggests semantics when dealing with an ill educated west londener innit...

Incidentally, why is there a 1 second delay for horse racing? Why not 0 seconds?
Report Feck N. Eejit November 25, 2009 1:47 PM GMT
To protect those with all the advantages from each other.

maybe 8 secs for horses from now on, and proven pre race winners over the lifetime of the account subject to a dull day at Leicester race course ( ohhh it were usually dull and not been in years but still feel qualified to dictate my views on others as it's a forum and I'm assured I should rant vaguely or start a challenge anyway ;)

Report brentford November 25, 2009 2:40 PM GMT

What do you mean by market maker advantage, Feck?
Report Feck N. Eejit November 25, 2009 5:23 PM GMT
ML, see my post on the "who are the people that make free money" thread. I've ttt'd it for you.

Oops, replied on wrong thread.
Thanks for that, Feck. Does that mean that in-play delay does not apply to cancellation?
Report Feck N. Eejit November 25, 2009 6:01 PM GMT
Yes ML. If you try to match an offer during play then you're unable to cancel while the clock is spinning meaning the owner has 7 seconds or whatever to decide if he wants his bet matched or not. The problem is betfair can't allow the offer taker to cancel during the countdown because that would allow users to beat the clock using the following method.

A bot continually submits in-play lays and backs of A. The bot cancels them a split second before they hit the queue unless it recieves a signal from the bot owner. If A wins a point, scores a goal, fells a wicket (whatever the sport) the user presses button A to indicate he wants the bot to let through backs of A. If A concedes a point, goal or wicket he presses button B to indicate he wants the bot to let through lays of A. The effect is the only bets that hit the queue are ones where play went in the bot owner's favour a split second before.
