Trading the Sugar Bowl right now and am getting hundreds of 1p lays. Whats the advantage of this? Is somebody trying some sort of bypass for commission?

Report ratpack3 January 4, 2007 12:07 PM GMT
me to and until bf stop it i will continue in this free market.
Report takethestand January 4, 2007 12:45 PM GMT
its me.....no wait i'm the 1p backer
Report Corky January 4, 2007 4:51 PM GMT
Why would you lay 1p ?
Report pumpkinslayer January 4, 2007 5:57 PM GMT
If you lay 1p at short odds you can't lose but could win a penny.
Report catflappo January 4, 2007 6:42 PM GMT
Not something that bf will allow to continue for long imo.
Report kohaku January 4, 2007 8:02 PM GMT
Ive **ed them out of hundreds in com, over the years
Report Corky January 6, 2007 5:43 AM GMT
You dont do it manually, surely ?
Report unsportingindex January 6, 2007 6:43 AM GMT
No,its done in one big wave and BF seem to do little about it.By getting the 1p's given you make a loss.

I'm thick, i wondered how i kept losing all those pennies when the p and l should have been 0
Report Get On MASSIVE November 5, 2009 11:43 AM GMT
I complained to Betfair about it about 18 months a go that I was getting about 20p matched per tennis match by someone laying the odds on shot for 1p at a time.

As pumpkinslayer said every time this happens you have a 1p liability for zero profit and obviously the layer has the reverse book. If you had a bot that done this for you then a risk free three figure sum could be made every week.
Report quietgenius November 5, 2009 1:14 PM GMT
Dead easy for BF to**if they could be bothered.
Report disturbed November 5, 2009 2:22 PM GMT
Have you asked for a refund? What did Betfair say?

How times have changed, i remember the days when it was a penny for the Guy at this time of year
Report Alex the old wrinkled retainer November 5, 2009 3:25 PM GMT
I am not so worried about these 1p bets. These 0.00 bets totally confuse me:

Fixtures 05 November / Everton v Benfica / First Half Goals Over 1.5 Goals Lay 9367859734 05-Nov-09
15:24 3.2 0.00 05-Nov-09 16:13 ...

Work that one out.
Report ZEALOT November 5, 2009 3:38 PM GMT
working a strategy out probably
with pennies instead of pounds
Report know all November 5, 2009 3:47 PM GMT
if you look after the pennies the pounds will look after themselves
Report Hopeless bettor November 5, 2009 5:12 PM GMT
Hope that one comes in for you Alex ;-) gl
Report kohaku November 5, 2009 5:28 PM GMT
I confess. I did perform that transaction today.
Report batman50 November 5, 2009 5:55 PM GMT
I thought minimum bet was £2
Report DaveEdwards November 5, 2009 6:05 PM GMT
Would somebody please be so kind as to explain how you can do these 1p lays to no liability?
Report aye robot November 5, 2009 6:06 PM GMT
How much did you make Kohaku- and seriously was it worth it?
Report Flutter_kid November 5, 2009 6:06 PM GMT
Ditto!
Report aye robot November 5, 2009 6:08 PM GMT
Dave- If you lay at 1.4 (for example) your liability is 0.4p. Supposedly (I've never tried) betfair round this down, so you either win a penny or lose nothing.

God knows what kind of moron actually does this.
Report DaveEdwards November 5, 2009 6:19 PM GMT
thx robot. I have to admit accumulating a load of 1ps isn't really a part of my strategy. One thousand transactions to win £10? Hahahaha
Report Flutter_kid November 5, 2009 6:22 PM GMT
But why not stick a bot on this and switch to it when there's nothing else doing? Eg while you're sleeping, eating,**ed (guess!) or simply waiting for a match/race!
Report aye robot November 5, 2009 6:24 PM GMT
Depending on the odds you use it would be more like 10-20,000 transactions-

Each bet needs three transactions and they don't all win (or even match).

Since betfair charge you if you go over 1000 transactions in an hour this is a very hard way to get rich.
Report The Magician (100) November 5, 2009 8:27 PM GMT
do some google searches...

I read an online aritcle years ago about a woman, that claimed tho do this on betfair and make a few hundred pounds per week

assumed if true was shut down - but maybe not
Report Jimbo747 November 5, 2009 8:42 PM GMT
I remember that magician.

She just layed 0.01p at 1.49 didnt she?
Report The Magician (100) November 5, 2009 8:49 PM GMT
yes.... and had all loses rounded down

apparently.

cant find the blog or article now.... I was deep in some research when I found it - so no way to get back to it.

I recall she was a American Woman actually

Report 1.01 Layer November 6, 2009 2:42 PM GMT
I usually report it to bf, when I see it and they always assure me that they take minimum bet and rounding abuse very seriously.

From what I gather, their integrity team like to be informed so they can identify the account and warn them that repeated abuse will lead to their account being closed.

But then bf are skimming money out of the markets with their cross matching software, so it's a bit rich them expecting users to be whiter than white, while they aren't even up front about their own skimming.

Caveat emptor, innit.
Report Pounf November 6, 2009 3:16 PM GMT
I remember a pal telling me about punters who bet 8/15s and 4/7s at 1p a time on the internet so that they get even money as theyre rounded up !!

Hard to believe
Report Latalomne November 6, 2009 3:48 PM GMT
