Howe is most fancied by Jason Wilcox, director of football.
Report Poppydog. • October 25, 2026 3:39 PM GMT
Nuts to take the job - the place is toxic and the players aren't that good.

Love the theory, that the introduction of VAR sent them on a never-ending downward spiral.

Wilcox is the man that advised extending Ten Haag's contract, then brought in Amorim and then Carrick, why does he get a another chance to pick another new manager
Report Shaboombaby • October 25, 2026 3:56 PM GMT
Potter
Report stu • October 25, 2026 3:56 PM GMT
Because he can and it's his job basically - plus others wanted Howe before too.

Harry Potter ?
Report Susquehanna • October 25, 2026 4:04 PM GMT
ok I'll put it another way so you understand what I'm saying, why is he not being sacked for incredibly incompetent, there's no way someone with that record should be in his position of powers, but all accounts his resume/track record was no where near good enough to be getting his job in the first place.
Report Susquehanna • October 25, 2026 4:06 PM GMT
extend Ten Haag contract off of the back of emotion, winning a cup
bring in Amorim who's system rarely works in the Premier League
bring in a manager who couldn't get Boro promoted from the 2nd tier.

So now Ratcliff is giving him another go to find another manager

lol
Report stu • October 25, 2026 4:09 PM GMT
It's fairly moot whether we agree, but he has the job and the main force in the pick.
Report Susquehanna • October 25, 2026 4:11 PM GMT
I don't think he does anymore, Ratcliff cannot be that daft, he's a billionaire businessman, he must know when someone isn't doing their job, he'll probably be gone with Carrick, be surprised if he wasn't.
Report SirNorbertClarke • October 25, 2026 4:14 PM GMT
Eddie Howe is a bang average manager, They might as well shut-up OT if he is appointed.
Report stu • October 25, 2026 4:18 PM GMT
He's consistently progressed teams beyond what they started as when he arrived, so not sure how we say he's bang average.

He's never managed a club as big as Utd, but done very well with weaker starting points and clubs.
Report SirNorbertClarke • October 25, 2026 4:55 PM GMT
United need a heart transplant, a kidney transplant, a liver transplant and new lungs.

The next manager will have his work cut out avoiding relegation.

He left Newcastle in very bad shape having to sell. He also saw off numerous DOFs at Newcastle so can't seem him being happy accepting the tripe Wilcox is buying.

'Maguire: We need to improve'

Maybe he's going for the player manager job with such insight Laugh

Fits the profile of likely to be placid and that's the only quality required.

He's the guy that used to play on the left wing for Blackburn Rovers in the 90s. How the hell did he end up in this position? Laugh

Breaking news....

A source close to Ineos has revealed that Sir Dave Brailsford is set to be announced as the new Manchester United Manager following Carrick's departure with Chris Froome taking up the position of Assistant Manager/Fitness Coach.

That's what they need, a reducer in midfield (a Big Ronism).

Any chance of securing Lance Armstrong as team Doctor?
