25 years since 9/11, where were you and what were you doing ?

I was on a roof near St Albans. We were working away and spent the rest of the day watching telly. Was pretty remarkable at the time.

Was in the office at work. Mrs not long had our first child. She rung me to tell me what was happening. My desk became the office news desk. Strangely enough, I had a driving lesson at 6pm same evening. My instructor was completely oblivious to the days events which I found staggering.

Read paper on way to work, I thought stock market looked worrying, phoned Mrs when I got into office, told her she should sell her bank shares( she had been considering it) she phoned me back confirming she had done it.

Not long after I had news on comp in office and saw it all happen.

Lots of folks were ringing me and it was hard to concentrate on doing any work.

Shares dropped about 20% iirc

A terribly sad day for those caught up in terrorism in New York and the hijacked planes... , and the world changed.

My thoughts were and are still with the victims of this heinous act and their families.

Regretfully, I may have been on Betfair, having only joined 4 days before 

Heard a radio bulleting, while working, went to another room to turn the TV on,
and it was just breaking - called everyone in and spent the next few hours gripped to the television

I was at work and my boss said "something" was happening in the States!!

Been to the memorial at ground zero and it is quite something, you walk through and there is news footage from the day and relatives speaking being played, outside they place a white rose by the name of the victim on what would have been their birthday.

I was working and in the process of moving equipment into a new building, so flitting backwards and forwards. Saw the initial news reports and assumed it was a tragic accident. Stopped for a coffee in the works canteen around 11ish and watched the 2nd aeroplane crash into the 2nd tower and it dawned on everybody it must have be intentional. I tried to phone friends etc, but the mobile network was completely bollixed. At the new site a young apprentice said it was probably the work of Bin Larden, who I had never even heard of at the time. I bought a copy of the Times the next day which I still have.

I has due to to fly out to the US for a holiday a couple of weeks later and only got the go ahead two days before the trip and we had to reorganise the holiday (flights and hotels separately booked through Expedia so no protection) to go to Boston rather than New York. The United 777 plane we went out on hardly had anybody on it. The air hostess told us that there were two armed rangers on the plane. Everywhere we went Americans were thanking us for still coming to their country. When we came back from LA, two planes were merged into one and half the passengers (including us) got upgraded to business class. Got back to Heathrow 7am having been on the lash for 9 hours.

Had just finished watching Denver/NYG NFL game from the previous night on VHS video and was perusing the Blue Square website with news channel on in background..

The BBC showed a documentary recently called something like 9-11 Inside the Presidents War Room. It was pretty good and President Bush went up in my estimation, having seen how he handled the day. Probably still on iPlayer.

i was in hospital for a week ,they,d told the wife and my mam to prepare for the worse,came home on this day,switched the tv on sat down and watched planes flying in to the twin towers, the wife said today 25yrs to the day since you came out of hospital

Almost convinced us that he wasn't in on it the whole time.

I was in the office working and a colleague called me over. He had the TV images on his PC. Only a few years earlier I had been to the top of the WTC and marvelled at the view over NY. It felt both horrific and surreal, hard to explain.

In a betting shop in Baldock, North Hertfordshire.

It was surreal watching the second plane hit.

I was on holiday at the time in Menorca with my girlfriend and we noticed a crowd around the hotel tv as events were unfolding. She headed off to our room for a siesta whilst i tried to work out what had gone on. The rest of the week was spent worrying about whether we would be able to fly home or not.

As it turned out our flight was ok but we were warned about things we must not have in our luggage or on our person. The tour operator said security would be tighter than a duck's arris and warned that searches etc would be conducted on everyone. When we got to the airport there was hardly a member of staff to be seen and the only so called  security guy was half asleep with a sombrero pulled down over his eyes. When stirred he simply waved us all through   Luckily there were no would be terrorists among us.

Yes and I booked a weeks Spa Resort holiday in St Lucia with free alcohol and treatments the week after for half price , the place was almost empty .

not all bad then...

I had a rare (in those days) quiet day at home so was giving the PC a major spring clean. No TV or radio on, just concentrating on the task in hand when my brother-in-law rang asking if I'd heard the news "Turn on the TV" he said. Suffice to say the PC didn't get finished that day.

Prior this date I had obtainded a mobile tv hand thing via my brother at sony. like a cb with a screen.

THen in a depot in swindon for SSE, heard the news, then a few people watched it on my hnadheld sony tv.

It was truly shocking. Still all cgi mind.
