Until the PL changes the rules and stops protecting the Brat 6 then things will continue like this forever. Its currently impossible for any club to break into that top 6 on a permanent basis.

Its the rules that prevent teams quickly joining and challenging them long term.

I'd dispute Utd have been financially well run since the Glazer takeover but they've managed despite gross incompetency and greed to fleece the club and fans without breaking any financial rules ( I think their was a minor issue with UEFA rules that they held their hands up to a few seasons back).

Nobody has challenged the top 2 for a decade except Arsenal, not even the other 3. The reality is it's better now than it was 20 or so years ago when the top 4 was a closed shop. You have 5 places now and 2 up for grabs every year for non top 6 clubs.

You need to be a well run club on and off the pitch for 5+ years minimum to be able to compete with the top sides. That's mainly down to City and Pep cheating but Arsenal and Liverpool managed to do it. For a club coming up from the championship it should be more like 10 years of being well run on and off the pitch.

United are a special case as they have the same finances as City naturally but they've managed to grow revenues massively and still be able to compete with City financially despite having £1bn+ sucked out of them by the owners. How they've spent the money is a separate issue, same with Spurs. Arsenal and Pool have done it well, the others haven't.

They've all spent £1bn+ since 2019 but only Arteta gets stick for that because he's the only one who's been there that long. Villa owners have pumped in £700m in the same period and they're complaining?

Villa are spending money on upgrading one of their stands this season I see, from 5k to 12k capacity and that stand will be closed this season. That is the way to go about it but it just makes their complaints even more ridiculous.

It costs a lot of money and your revenues are going to take a hit, you have to reduce spending/sell players to funds a project like that, especially when you are already near maximum and having to sell women's team for £55m to balance the books.

Yes, but your matchday will take a hit with a stand closed for a season and the owners can pump the money in but it doesn't mean they will pump 100% of it in.
Villa have been spending beyond their means for years and gambling on getting CL every year. Paying big wages to guys like Rashford, Asencio and missing out on CL. They had Sancho on 200k a week last season too.

If you don't get CL every year then at some point in the 3 year rolling period there is a bad year and you have to sell to balance the books or pull stunts like the Kellyman/Maatsen deals with Chelsea or selling the women's team. They've got CL 2 of the last 3 years and won the Europa while having £700m pumped into them. They should be delighted to be where they are but they are totally maxxed out when it comes to spending. It's the UEFA rules that are more of a problem for them than the PL rules.

Emery has a lot of power at the club and CL football this season. Why would he leave now (or at all)? I doubt a bigger CL club will be in for him and they're hardly going to fire him.

His CV suggests he's in the best type of job for his talents.

It's a good point, I think that every time someone goes for a huge fee, that their must be umpteen players with the same ability, United just spunked 65 mil on Baleba, they're paying over the odds because he's a Premier League player, probably a dozen players with similar ability all over Europe, all Prem clubs do the same but United in particular seem to specialise in wasting money

City underpaid for Savinho as he was owned by a club in their group but he's been nothing other than a flop and shouldn't be going for anything like that fee. The talk is it's a 2 player deal with Marmoush and the Savinho fee is inflated to keep the Marmoush fee lower as Frankfurt had a sell-on clause when City bought him.

If true, this sort of stuff shouldn't be allowed and both Spurs and City should be sanctioned for it but they've probably found another loophole in the rules. Spurs took out a big loan secured on future TV money to fund this latest splurge. Seems they are going gung ho at getting CL.

I had Villa finishing 10th this year, as I looked at who they'd lost, looked at Watkins probably going, looked at their first choice 11 and decided they now look bang average, and with European football on top of it, they'd do well to finish above 10th.

I see similar traits with how it ended for Emery at Arsenal, looked disinterested towards the end, made some seemingly strange in-game decisions and waiting to be sacked as he couldn't do the job he wanted as at the time the board were foisting players onto him and he couldn't bring in players he wanted like Zaha, he'd be happy to be giving the bullet about now with stock still high.
