Saturday July 4th.   Morocco big favourites here.  1.39 (2/5) to qualify. Canada are 3.5 (5/2).   Can the Canucks spring a surprise here.  I hope so.

Canada faces Morocco in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 on Saturday, July 4, at Houston Stadium.  Canada enters as the underdog, having secured their first-ever knockout-stage victory with a 1-0 win over South Africa, while Morocco advanced by defeating the Netherlands on penalties.

Team News and Key Players
Canada

Alphonso Davies: The captain and Bayern Munich star is a major question mark. He played 20 minutes off the bench against South Africa and could feature for 30-35 minutes or start, providing a significant attacking threat on the left flank.
Ismael Kone: Out for the tournament with a broken ankle.
Positional Battles: Jacob Shaffelburg and Liam Millar are competing for the left wing spot, while Tani Oluwaseyi and Cyle Larin are pushing for a place alongside Jonathan David in attack.
Potential Changes: Coach Jesse Marsch may introduce Niko Sigur into central midfield to help combat Morocco's dominance in the center, potentially partnering with Stephen Eustáquio and Nathan Saliba.
Morocco

Unchanged XI Expected: Morocco is likely to field the same squad that beat the Netherlands, showcasing their defensive solidity and experience.
Key Threats: The team boasts nine players from their 2022 semifinal run, including Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Brahim Díaz (Real Madrid), and Ismael Saibari (Bayern Munich), who has scored three goals in this tournament.
Midfield Control: Morocco’s midfield, anchored by Neil El Aynaoui and Azzedine Ounahi, overwhelmed the Netherlands and poses a severe challenge for Canada’s central duo.
Injury Concerns: Chadi Riad is the only noted injury concern but is expected to play.
Match Context
Historical Record: Canada has never beaten Morocco in four previous meetings, including a 2-1 loss in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.
Stakes: The winner advances to the quarterfinals to face either France or Paraguay.
Analysis: Morocco is ranked No. 6 globally and is considered tactically superior and more experienced, while Canada relies on defensive discipline and counter-attacking speed, particularly if Davies is fit.

If it goes to form, Morocco should win fairly comfortably. We've seen a few shocks and anything can happen, especially with home advantage. But Canada are a pretty ordinary side with a bluffer as a coach. Morocco are a very good side, and 1.87 is a very good price.

Morocco are a great team and play some good football but for me they lack that killer instinct.

I'm going to lay Morocco.

Got to go out for an hour and hate if you hear the score when out so had 1 bet on a Red Card, feel there could be some heavy tackling, 7.4 up to 7.8 taken. Will not book how many cards anymore as some of the shirt pulling etc not booked make to volatile, this way may get luck with a straight or 2 bookings. Have a chance in this game, gl all.

It must be almost impossible nowadays for a radio station to be in sync with the pictures on your telly? Sky Sports was always well behind. Sky Stream pictures are just about kicking off now!

Morocco uses the abbreviation MAR because international sporting bodies like FIFA base many of their country codes on the French name for the nation, Maroc.

Because of France's colonial history in the region, French remains a highly influential language in the country, resulting in the Maroc identifier.

I don't need them to be in synch. I just need them to be as close to real time as possible. And if they are purposefully synched up then it's more likely they will be miles behind the action, which is not much use either. From my point of view, anyway.

I've got out of my Morocco back, they don't look great. Still got them in a couple of doubles and trebles, though.

Long way to go, of course. And Canada won't be able to sustain this intensity for the whole game.
