Heard many times pre tournament how 3 points would almost certainly get you to the next stage as one of the 8 best 3rd place teams .Of the 8 to make it ,7 had 4 points ,only 1 made it through with 3.Just shows how much the experts know .

I think a few teams were undone by aiming at the 3 pts.
Not going for it when they might have in games 1 & 2, because a draw or a narrow defeat seemed to keep them on course for the magic three.
South Korea and Scotland notably.
Then they got overtaken by all the teams who just had to go for it in the final game.

I don't think they factored in, or even knew about the h2h tie-break rule.
