On bet356 site, the next market priced up after match odds, is "team to kick off" I've no intention of betting on it, just wondered how it is priced up?
For eg, tonight England who are match favs, are 2/5, Ghana 7/4 to kick off However, Portugal who are 1/7 in the match odds, are 10/11, Uzbekistan 4/5 to kick off
If you didn't know anything else, you'd probably price it up as a coin toss, literally, 10/11 each of two
I can only assume that something like this is factored in... Team A, if they win the toss always choose ends Team B, if they win the toss always choose to kick off Ie Team B always gonna kick off
Obviously, can't be as straightforward as that otherwise bet is a cert
So, let's look at the Premier league where you've got the captains doing the same thing every week. Captain of team A always chooses ends if he wins the toss, Captain of team B always chooses kick off if he wins the toss...so team B are always going to kick off...
I'm thinking of ,for eg,Liverpool always wanting to attack the Kop end in the second half so they'll always choose ends
Tiger, yes that's what I said in my opening postSo, let's look at the Premier league where you've got the captains doing the same thing every week. Captain of team A always chooses ends if he wins the toss, Captain of team B always chooses kick off i
I don't know if the result of the coin toss and the relevant captains choices in previous matches are available for public knowledge, I would assume so, OPTA stats?
At this WC I've noticed the TV coverage switching away from the referee and captains just as they are about to do the toin coss, then come back for the kick off...not for any nefarious reasons, just got ads or promos to show...bl00dy annoying for someone like me trying to find an edge!

with rugby union tyle kick off all in vogue, trying to win back the ball high up the pitch,I,d imagine vast maj of captain on order of the coach, maybe even 90% now take the KO over ends if they win the toss,

England are 1.22 to win against Ghana. I think it's far too short. I think 8 for a draw is a betting proposition given the history of England; Semenyo could be a thorn for England.

Reg, England have a history of kicking off first when winning the toss, whereas Ghana have a history of choosing which way to play when winning the toss leaving the other team to kick off. Nothing is set in stone though. Its never easy!!

They do this in cricket and sometimes you get some decent odds Matched by to win the toss market.
Interesting stuff.

OK yesterday matches Uzbek outsider at 5/4 Ghana outsider at 7/4
Last 2 matches Croatia/Panama and Colombia/DR Congo...I didn't watch and cannot find out who kicked off on opta stats, highlights or anywhere...anyone?

OK, got results of yesterday's 4 matches regarding who kicked off and bet356 prices...
Uzbekistan 5/4 England 2/5.....(I wrongly said Ghana earlier, sorry) Croatia 1/2 Colombia 2/5
So, the 3 long odds on obliged, the 4th one went to the slight outsider of 2
Too small a sample to say there's a pattern emerging, but I shall keep sticking up the results Sorry if this is boring anyone, although there's worse threads on here most days I would suggest, but this is a forum to discuss football betting

isn't it a case of the better side will almost always kick off if they win the toss, but the lesser side might not? So Morocco would be 95% likely to kick off if they win the toss, but Haiti are 70% or even lower?

OK, yesterday's results... Teams who kicked off were Scotland 10/11 Morocco 4/9 Bosnia 4/7 Canada 8/11
(Also Mexico and South Korea but didn't get their prices)
So,once again the real short ones,Morocco and Bosnia, oblige That's 5/5 from any team 4/7 or shorter to kick off I'll put today's up soon

OK, 6 matches again later... I'll ignore 2 of them, Ecuador/Germany 5/6 each,Japan Evs/Sweden 8/11
The 4 shorties... Curacao 1/2 Netherlands 4/7 Australia 2/5 USA 2/5
The 4 fold pays just over 7/2 I've gone in for very small, just to test my theory Good luck all

OK, yesterday's kick off results, if anyone is interested? Probably just me...
6 matches, 5 favs obliged Only one that didn't was Curacao v Ivory Coast, however IC were backed in to 5/4 from 6/4 before they kicked off Others were Germany, 8/13 from 5/6...!!! Sweden 8/11 Netherlands 4/7 Australia 2/5 USA 2/5
More than just a pattern emerging, imo I just can't work out the reasoning behind it

Yes, rico, that's why I said today/tonight I think you'll find that the term "tonight" covers everything from late evening today until early morning tomorrow...basically, the hours that you can generally be found hanging around the Jaywick gents toilets

Update...4 of the 6 favs obliged last night, including the shortest ones coming in yet again... Iraq at 1/2 and Spain at 4/11
There's something in this, I just can't figure it out
I'll be back to bore you with it again later!

They'll be forming odds through known data from previous calls. Once the tendencies of both sides are known, the bookies can set the likelihood to match. Deviation could come from fav or dog status, wind direction, and which side sun is facing.
Even if every now and then they're giving away some value on either side, or let's go further and say they were ALWAYS offering value on the fav, it's not like they can ever be skinned by at, since nobody is staking seriously on these novelty markets. And any account that tries to put more than a score on any outsider will be flagged for potential conspiracy, suspicious behaviour.
Anyway, Regbutler, I personally wish you all the best in your endeavours to master this particular market!

Cheers DBL and 1tp I realise that even if there was an edge it wouldn't last long or the max stakes would be low anyway... Just following it out of curiosity
Anyway, later matches today/tomorrow morning...
6 matches, the 2 involving Portugal and Argentina betting is close-ish
However, the other 4 matches all have a fav at 4/11...???
England Croatia Uzbekistan Austria
Will put up results tomorrow
Gl all

Croatia 4/11 Uzbekistan 4/11 Austria 4/11 Colombia 8/13 Jordan Evens Panama 2/1
So, 4 out of 6 favs including 3 from 4 of the really short 4/11 ones...only one that didn't oblige was England, perhaps Harry is reading this thread?! As I already said, it's annoying that both BBC and ITV cut away from the action just as the toss of the coin is performed, then come back for the kick off. Therefore, you can't see who has won the toss and which choice they made
Might carry on putting these up, but I'm pretty sure there's no money to be made from having an edge or insight, especially to the very small stakes they probably allow on these bets

I'm thinking that the oddsmakers at bet356 have the information on what the teams and/or captains have previously done when winning the toss, and price up accordingly, hence prices like 4/9...it may be that they just have people watching and record every detail because I can't find this info available via Google

Yhtl, surprised it's not already given the amount of markets per match Ideal bet if you think the match might be boring, only need to watch the first 1 second

OK, I'm done with this kick off lark I've come to the unsurprising conclusion that there's no edge to making money on this bet... If a match is priced up Team A 1/2 Team B 2/1, ie at 100%... Then Team A will kick off 2 out of 3 , Team B 1 out of 3...profit zero
That's obviously a generalisation but that's roughly how it's been working out The bookie chaps have more info than me on how to price this market up, and adding in their overround, unless you had a multi millionaire footballer wanting to nick 20 quid from Denise Coates???!!!
Cheers all

i explained in 10 days ago, if the big nation wins the toss they kick off 95% of the time, if the underdog wins the toss the percentage odds of kicking off are lower, hence the difference in the odds.

what i dont get is bwith every team kicking it down the field for field position, if you won the toss why wouldnt you kick off, makes a mockery of same teams kicking for field position at other times
