This Iran team is crap though, they've been defending for their lives every since the other team went down to 10 men, you'd think it was them.

The odds just reflect the level of club teams these players are all playing atBelgium have 7-8 Champions League players, the rest Europa, Iran play out in the desert again your local Goat Herders, crop pickers and Tractor drivers, apparently Belgium are years past their best but they should still have enough to beat them.

If that was all the odds were based on, but we know how these teams have been performing. But Iranian players either don't travel well to foreign clubs for cultural reasons, or don't travel at all for political reasons. We can see from past results that they are about the level of Wales/Bosnia. Belgium's 'golden generation' meanwhile peaked around the 2018 WC, were not so good at Euro 2021 and were pretty awful the last 2 tournaments. Now rocking up here with completely washed up former stars and younger players mostly journeyman.Shocking in the 1st game and lucky to draw with Egypt. Still entitled to be favs yes, but more of a 1.85 chance.

Whilst most of that is true, they didn't even hit that price that you expected for well over an hour and for a reason, the way the game played out with xG, possession - even with 10 men btw, shots on goal and on target, number of passes etc, meant it was domination for Belgium but without really creating the big chances, Belgium still levels above Iran who's whole side nearly, plays in the deserts and mountains or their home country. All of Belgiums starts are playing in the top 3-4 leagues in Europe.

Iran may have played OK in the first game but what you haven't mentioned is a) they drew the first game b) they were still outplayed in the first game and c) they drew the first game against .....New Zealand, that's quite relevant don't you think, the worst team at the World Cup, lowest ranked and expected to finish bottom of the group - whilst Belgium had to play a team ranked over 50 places higher than the Kiwis in Egypt, NZ are only here because they're from the weakest qualifying region there is, spanking the mighty Pacific Islands of Tahiti, Vanuatu and Samoa in the groups before pumping Fiji and New Caledonia in the knockouts. They'd never have got out of Asian qualifier's like Australia do. So can't be giving Iran props for scraping a draw against them and conceding two goals in the process, especially given NZ even had more of the ball, made more passes and more shots on target than Iran. You're over estimating Iran based on a game against a pub team.

In fairness to Belgium as well, their two best players are clearly not match fit, De Bruyne and Lukaku, both had injuries this season/.

Kind Regards.

So Iran's FIFA ranking is meaningless but New Zealand are the worst team because FIFA rankings say so Confused

Are Iranian players really all playing in Iran because none of them could get a game in Europe? Or is there more to it than that..

It's because rap songs have a sanitized version for radio and pre watershed TV. And that version gets way more YT views because most viewers are not signed in and age verified so can't view the original, which will still be there.

You were making a case for Belgium's odds to be 1.85 and using Iran's result against the lowest ranked side in the tournament who came through the weakest qualifying region, as justification for that, yet you didn't even mention them by name (New Zealand), which couldn't be any more relevant, you just said 'they played better in the first games, which is a meaningless analysis without context, and you also didn't mention who Belgium played either, which was equally as relevant.

Iran #22, played New Zealand #83, and they drew, conceded 2 goals and were not even better statistically, less passes, less possession, less shorts on target, xG slightly better. Belgium played a side much closer to them in the rankings.

I don't see how a result against New Zealand who have a player in their squad playing for.....wait for it.....Braintree Laugh can be used here to make a case for NZ being anything other than rubbish, there's another one from Port Vale as well just relegated to the 4th tier in England

And moreover - the way this match panned out, with Belgium pretty much in complete control - even with 10 men Iran were on the backfoot mostly defending, and finishing the game with far more passes, possessions and shots, it does validate the original odds, even if the game ended a draw.

Kind Regards.

Egypt v New Zealand seems a likely draw IMO

I think Egypt will be comfortable against NZ, in the first game I couldn't believe why Iran conceded so much possession to NZ who were there for the taking whenever Iran went at them but they just did not do it often enough.

NZ have the feel of being a really poor side to me just waiting to be hammered.

I find it hard predicted international results.

I posted in one of the match threads today, that if you'd have just done something simple like back the draw in every single game so far with level stakes, you'd be in profit by 22.53 pts, think it was during the Spain game, which means now you'd be in profit by 25.03pts after the Iran/Belgian game, going by b365 pre-round odds.

Yet actually trying to predict results rather than a pattern, means my predictions instead are showing -9.58 after 37 matches, over 30pt difference, ffs.

Kind Regards.
