Though it looks hard to get knocked out of this one.

no rod, most of my bets so far are backs of Norway
Report mesmerised June 17, 2026 12:28 AM BST
I thought Norway would actually top the group as I fancied them to outscore France against Iraq and Senegal, now that France have scored 3 past Senegal not as likely. If the do finish 2nd, they'll probably come through a Ecuador or Ivory Coast, but then it's probably Brazil in the next round who would probably have found form by then, whilst anything can happen in a one off game, when you look at clubs all these Norweigans are actually playing for outside of the front 3, it's like a mid table Premier League side at best, against an elite CL level side, don't see where the confidence in them comes from unless you're expecting a sort of Maradonna dragging an average Argentina side to World Cup glory in 86 esque type run, because that'd be the equivilent. Good luck anyway, but can't see it myself.
Report duffy June 17, 2026 4:01 AM BST
Argentina are ahead on points out of the teams we've seen so far, quick passing and moving between the lines, all the players look comfortable, France have individuals but this Argentina look like a "team".

At twice the price that is where the value looks to be at the moment.

Report mesmerised June 17, 2026 11:26 PM BST
Out of all the teams I've seen so far disregarding opposition, the most impressive I've seen so far in attack and defence, is Argentina.
Report duffy June 17, 2026 11:36 PM BST
England just won a chaotic game, not really controlled, it remains to be seen how they perform against a technically superior team, Argentina were very comfortable on the ball and were able to play the ball into tight spots and maintain possession, England can't do that and it is precisely how we lost the first goal tonight.

If tonight is a template of how we win it, i.e. we turn games into typical EPL games then we will need a lot of luck against the more technical sides as playing open football against them will see us getting picked off.

We'd probably be better off playing with two tight banks of defence and counter attacking with Madueke, Bellingham, Rashford and Kane.
Report elisjohn June 18, 2026 2:22 AM BST
the best england game ive seen in years fair play,
Report mesmerised June 18, 2026 7:38 AM BST
On a par with England 5-1 Germany 2001 away, 4-1 Holland at Euro 96

But that defence and keeper is Conference level.

Stones is a mostly a right hand-side of defence centre back for City and England, played on the left, Gordon down the left hand side must have had the fewest touches on the pitch as attacks werent not being funneled that way, mostly went out to Madueke, Stones used to playing it the other way, Guehi plays on the left hand side of a centre back pairing, used to passing and receiving the ball in those areas, why is he on the bench. Why is Tuchel obsessed with Stones, brought him to the World Cup un-match fit over Maguire, then actually starts him over Guehi, who's there and match fit.

Drop Stones otherwise England will be KO'd again v the first half decent side in the tournament, probably Brazil in the quarters.

Kind Regards.
Report second again June 18, 2026 8:28 AM BST
I would think England's biggest problem will be playing a top team in the heat.
Report tobermory June 20, 2026 1:05 AM BST
England have now displaced Spain as 2nd favs
Report lurka June 20, 2026 1:41 AM BST
That defence and keeper looks less solid than under Southgate and he played 2 DMs in front of it and had his wingers track back (apart from the last euros when they were exposed and conceded the first goal in the QF SF and final). All 6 goals in the Croatia game were awful from the defending team's point of view. That doesn't make England more likely to beat the top sides imo. But it's only 1 game and Tuchel will likely play a lot like Southgate in the KO rounds.
Report duffy June 20, 2026 4:30 AM BST
Tuchel keeps emphasizing the "go for it" mentality which suggests that they won't be playing pragmatic Southgate type football, rather that they'll try and turn games into a helter skelter EPL style game which will cause its own problems as the better sides will be able to absorb that and play through us.
Report DBLyourmoney June 21, 2026 5:54 PM BST
Spain have now displaced England as 2nd favs.

Market so pathetically fickle.
Report duffy June 21, 2026 6:09 PM BST
Yep, Spain won't be winning, they haven't got enough game breakers to combat organizeation, they'll also be susceptible at the back to the counter attack against better sides.
Report DBLyourmoney June 21, 2026 6:54 PM BST
Whether they win it or not, the point stands it was laughable they were ever displaced by England in the 1st place. 1 game and we're already replacing the 30+ game unbeaten Euro winners, who presumably carried the same insufficient game breakers and defensive susceptibility back then? It's all a silly nonsense.
Report tobermory June 22, 2026 8:42 PM BST
nah I think England should be 2nd favs

The most likely way a favourite goes out is the passing around with 80% possession and you don't get the perfect threaded pass for the early goal, and it just drifts towards penalties.

I can see that happening to Spain and Portugal, but not England as Tuchel wants them to go out on their shields.
Report tobermory June 22, 2026 8:43 PM BST
I find the markets lack of faith in Norway disturbing.

Had to go in again @50
Report PorcupineorPineapple June 22, 2026 8:53 PM BST
As it stands, here are the likeliest knock out opponents for Argentina:

R32 - Cape Verde

R16 - Belgium

QF - Colombia

A back at 7.8 now feels like an absolute gift and it would take a miracle not to lock in a decent profit.

And the Yanks have a very favourable likely draw and are still overpriced.

tobermory, anti-footballing your way to pens doesn't guarantee success. Arsenal can tell you that from their CL final loss. It's 50-50 at the least, with skill&composure tipping it in your favour. England played an ageing Croatia side willing to go man for man and play high up the pitch. Until they face a complete anti-football display, there's no telling how they'll get on.

Investing in Scotland OR England at whatever odds is certain to yield ZERO interest. At least for those backing Scotland their fantasy profits are much bigger.

The market seems to fail to anticipate predictable outcomes. Japan yesterday were in all probability set to be 2nd in the group and play Brazil in the round of 32, and they were priced at 46.

I just thought it was because Japan were that respected. But now they are actually playing Brazil they are at 70 with 75 quite matchable.
